We are in search of a Team Manager to join the central Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) Service on secondment for up to 12 months to cover maternity leave.
The DoLS Service oversees Devon County Councils statutory duties regarding the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards. This involves organizing necessary professional assessments, addressing challenges or complaints, as well as handling a growing number of legal disputes taken to The Court of Protection for individuals with objections to any Standard Authorization.
This secondment presents an exciting chance to become part of a supportive and dynamic team, enhance your management skills, and expand your practical knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act and the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.
About the Role:
The selected individual will be accountable for the day-to-day management of the service, which includes workflow and referral management, and the supervision of staff members. The team consists of health and social care professionals who are approved Best Interest Assessors, along with the Service Support Manager and a group of DoLS Administrators.
About you:
You must hold a registration as a Social Worker, Registered Nurse, Occupational Therapist, or Chartered Psychologist, and have successfully completed specialized Best Interests Assessor training.
Demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of the Mental Capacity Act, the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, current legal cases, and the interaction with other relevant legal frameworks is essential. The decisions made by the individual in this role could have significant consequences for Service users, their families, carers, and the organization. Therefore, active engagement with the County Solicitor (and other professionals) is necessary to ensure that team practices meet current legal standards and, when unclear, assist in Court of Protection applications.
The Post Holder is anticipated to champion the principles of the Mental Capacity Act by actively interacting with professionals, the voluntary sector, and care providers, offering guidance and aid, and delivering training.
Effective communication through all channels (electronic, written, verbal) is crucial, with an ability to tailor the message to the intended audience. This position demands confident and fluent verbal communication in English.
