Job Summary

We offer diagnostic reagent products to blood transfusion services and hospitals in the UK, EU and beyond, supplying around 300,000 bottles of product annually. As part of this role, you'll have a pivotal position as a subject matter expert, leading service and product development by executing various change initiatives focusing on standardization, new methodologies, integrating new technology, service and product enhancement, and increased efficiency.

You'll be a key team member spearheading projects in our specialized reagents units and diagnostic laboratories, overseeing multiple process and product development cycles from inception through analysis, implementation, and post-implementation monitoring, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget, working independently with appropriate support and guidance.

Main duties of the job

In this role, you'll serve as a subject matter expert, guiding service and product development within Pathology, initially concentrating on Reagents. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assessing and fostering innovative concepts that contribute to strategic development and enhanced service provision.
  • Leading and executing various change initiatives addressing standardization, new methodologies, the introduction of cutting-edge technology, service and product enhancement, and increased efficiency.
  • Providing expert counsel on standards and specifications for systems, processes, consumables, and equipment, leading evaluation and procurement processes.
  • Developing expertise and acting as the primary liaison for all stakeholders within a specified area, supporting quality management within the operation.
  • Maintaining a comprehensive understanding of practices, procurement, licensing, and regulatory guidelines related to Pathology, especially concerning the design, development, production, and testing of NHSBT produced reagents.
  • Possessing expert knowledge of in-vitro diagnostics processes, products, and regulations, and stepping in for the Head of Department when necessary.

You'll be expected to travel and be away from your base, involving irregular working hours and overnight stays as needed, with advance notice provided.

About You

Experience and Knowledge

  • Advanced transfusion science knowledge acquired through work in a transfusion laboratory or educational institution.
  • Comprehensive scientific and technical proficiency in in-vitro diagnostic processes, with a strong awareness of new advancements.
  • A solid grasp of Good Manufacturing Practice, Good Laboratory Practice, Operational Improvement, and Total Quality Management.
  • Deep expertise in in-vitro diagnostics processes, products, and regulations.
  • Experience in setting targets for direct reports and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Proficiency in risk management, process validation, and change management.
  • Familiarity with change management and service restructuring.
  • Skilled in project management and change implementation.
  • Experience working with Information Technology utilizing Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

Qualifications and Training

  • Master's level certification or equivalent relevant professional credentials or demonstrable expertise and experience at Master's level.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to ongoing professional development (CPD).
