This post is responsible to the Mental Health Service Managers. You will be based at our impressive offices in Camberwell. The team works in collaboration with colleagues from the local Mental Health NHS Trust (SLaM) and a range of partners.

The role will need to promote safe, innovative and creative approaches to meeting the needs of both service users and carers in line with best practice and quality assurance, alongside performance and budget management, and oversight of resources and cases.

About you:

You will be a registered Social Worker or Occupational Therapist and have experience of managing others within health and/or adult social care. You will have a genuine passion for the provision of high quality services and demonstrate a commitment to strengths-based ways of working.

You will have awareness of current Social Care legislation and social policy including safeguarding adults.

You will be a practical thinker and have the ability to manage demand while keeping the person at the centre of our strategic vision. We are looking for an innovative and experienced leader with the drive, resilience and creativity to help lead a busy, fast-paced team within a high performing inner London borough.

We welcome candidates with living/lived experience as a service user or carer.

About Southwark:

We are the largest local authority social landlord in London, managing 55,000 homes lived in by 40% of Southwark's residents. We are home to over 18,300 businesses including iconic London venues and social enterprises and we have a young, diverse and growing population.

At Southwark we are committed to making our borough just and fair and are taking positive action to tackle inequalities. Our residents and communities are our greatest asset and the passion we have for Southwark is shared by millions of Londoners who enjoy our outstanding cultural offer, use our hospitals and attend our universities. Our refreshed borough plan and focus on Southwark Stands Together, (which is our work with Southwark's communities and the council's staff to tackle racism, injustice and inequality) underpins all that we do.

Southwark Adult Social Care (Mental Health):

We have an exciting 'act up' opportunity to lead one of our mental health adult social care teams. The Care and Support Team (CAST) works with adults with various mental health needs and also their carers. The team is comprised of Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Assistant Practitioners and Business Support, including 2 Deputy Managers and Advanced Practitioners. This inter-professional approach allows the sharing of skills to ensure that we work flexibly and constructively to support service users and carers.

We aim to deliver a high quality, safe, strength based service, promoting and improving independence, ensuring comprehensive person-centred assessments, reviews and interventions, supporting court work (where required) and ensuring residents are safeguarded and have choice and control over their care and support needs.

We have a really strong team spirit; we work to support each other and work collaboratively with our heath colleagues. With teammates from diverse cultures, we have a proven track record of supporting colleagues to progress their professional and career development.

We will only consider applications from internal candidates, that are current employees or agency workers on an active assignment. We encourage any internal staff to to gain agreement from their substantive line manager if considering this is as a secondment opportunity.
