About BPL

Barnsley Premier Leisure is a not-for-profit social enterprise and charitable company that was established in July 1999. We seek at all times to provide affordable, value for money health, sport and leisure facilities and activities.

We operate a diverse portfolio of sports and leisure facilities across Barnsley, Bassetlaw, Mansfield and Pontefract. Our unique facilities include leisure centre's, golf courses, health clubs, along with the award winning regional attraction - The Barnsley Metrodome - home of an exciting Calypso Cove Water Park, State of the art gym, Bowling Alley, food and dining and an events Arena all under one roof.

The Trading Board is seeking new people who can provide strategic advice, support and industry expertise to lead discussions, empower decision-making and drive new initiatives. We are seeking to appoint Non-Executive Directors based on their experience and skills within one or more of the following: Development / Leadership / Growth, as well as Commercial Business Acumen in the area of hospitality, Events and Catering.

The Trading Board is responsible for all BPL Trading operations within BPL facilities which are inclusive in all venues and are available for events and catering spaces for hire.

Successful candidates will have the opportunity to use their business experience and strategic skills to make a real difference to the way we operate as a Charitable Trust and Trading Company as well as contributing to the on-going success of BPL.

As a Non-Executive Trading Director you will be able to commit to at least one-half day per month.

Role Description Non-Executive Trading Director

As a member of the Trading Board, you will be responsible for strategic oversight of the commercial operations of BPL facilities, ensuring that we meet income targets, thereby supporting the Charitable trust as well as contributing to the overall success of the business.

Responsibilities

As a Non-Executive Director, you must be able to attend bi-monthly board meetings to contribute to the group through your knowledge of the industry, or other commercial organisations, in maximising opportunities available to ensure the ongoing success of BPL.

Use your extensive networking experience of local and regional organisations and businesses to make contact to promote what we offer as a Company to the Region.

Ensure that BPL complies with its governing document, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations.

Ensure that BPL pursues its objects as defined in its governing document. Through your previous experiences in working at a strategic level, contribute actively to the Trading Board in giving firm strategic direction to BPL Trading, setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets.

Safeguard the good name and values of the Company.

From experience of understanding financial management procedures and budgetary control, ensure the financial stability of BPL.

As a Non-Executive Director, you should use any specific skill, knowledge or experience to help the Board to reach sound decisions.

This may involve scrutinising board papers, leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, or other issues which a Non-Executive Director has special expertise.

And any other duties or responsibilities commensurate with the position and falling within the scope of the role, as requested by the Chair of the Trading Board
