About the Practice/Department/Team


Lakeside Healthcare Group Stamford is a forward thinking, progressive organisation offering primary care services to the people of Stamford and surrounding villages.

We are a large practice with a population of over 28,000 patients. We are a great team and welcome the challenges that a busy practice brings.

Job Introduction


To lead the sites Dispensary Team, ensuring that Dispensary Teams services and support are provide in accordance with practice protocols and procedures and that a high level of customer service is provided and maintained.


To co-ordinate the team, ensuring that cover is maintained in accordance with the rota and that additional cover is organised at times of unplanned absence.

Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing their medications.


Provide general assistance to the Practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone.

Facilitate effective communication between patients, members of the primary health care team, secondary care and other associated healthcare agencies.

What you will do

  • To ensure the provision of quick, efficient and accurate dispensing of medicine to the patients of Lakeside Healthcare Stamford.
  • To ensure that all medicines and appliances dispensed are checked against the prescription.
  • To ensure that all monies received or handled on behalf of the practice are appropriately stored and banked, and a record kept of all financial transactions.
  • To collect all due prescription charges and ensure that the patient declaration on the reverse of the FP10 is duly filled in and signed by the patient.
  • To endorse all prescription forms as appropriate, collate and forward the forms in a secure manner to the NHS Prescription Services for processing and reimbursement
  • To handle stock levels and ensure all drugs are stored in an appropriate manner
  • Act as the Dispensing Team Lead and contribute to joint project and development work across the Dispensing sites within Lakeside as directed.
  • Lead the Dispensing Team and ensure that an efficient, professional and courteous manner is maintained.
  • Ensure a thorough oversight of practice procedures and protocols and how the Dispensary Team interacts with these. To update and review Dispensary Team protocols on a regular basis to ensure that they remain current and adapt to operational changes.
  • Act as a role model, demonstrating and promoting the standards expected by the Practice and to motivate and inspire the Dispensary Team creating the energy and enthusiasm required for the service and promoting good staff and patient relations.
  • Provide guidance and direction to staff, direct any "onthejob" training as required and oversee or deliver induction training for new staff. Help mediate with any interpersonal problems within the team and address any concerns.
  • Provide ongoing training and reviews, contribute to the annual appraisal process and organise and deliver regular team meetings.
  • Assist with and minimise any potential issues that may lead to a patient complaint.

Essential Criteria
We are looking for somebody with;

  • Previous experience of managing a team.
  • Excellent communication skills both written & verbal.
  • The ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Great IT skills.
