Do you have a passion for engaging with communities and stakeholders? We are looking for a dedicated Community Engagement Officer to join our team. Your role will involve interacting with various stakeholders and communities impacted by proposed changes in the fire and rescue service in London. This exciting position is initially for 6 months, with the possibility of extension to 12 months, providing an immediate start for the right candidate.

Responsibilities:
  • Engage with diverse communities and stakeholders regarding proposed changes in the fire and rescue service.
  • Collaborate with community representatives and partner agencies during emergencies and critical incidents.
  • Represent the fire and rescue service at community meetings and establish relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Assist the Community Engagement Manager in guiding internal teams on engagement strategies.
  • Contribute to the department's objectives by actively participating in the communication plan.
  • Coordinate with partner agencies, such as emergency services and the Mayor's office, to ensure effective community engagement.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a complex organization serving diverse communities.
  • Demonstrated ability in building strong community relationships.
  • Experience in conducting public consultations and engaging with hard-to-reach groups.
  • Ability to quickly connect with communities in public and emergency service contexts.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to engage with diverse community groups in challenging situations.
  • Strong organizational skills to handle workloads and achieve performance targets.
  • Numerical and analytical skills for budget monitoring, contract management, and data analysis.
  • Knowledge of fire and rescue operations and understanding of safeguarding principles.
  • Familiarity with relevant publicity laws, including the Local Government Publicity Code and Data Protection regulations.
