Are you ready for the exciting opportunity and challenge to be developed into a specialised neurological Band 6 OT in our band 5 developmental program.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, and versatile team player to join our neurological rotation across Royal London Hospital and Mile end Hospital.

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an Occupational Therapist with an interest and experience in neurology to join our neuro rotation. You will be part of a large, friendly, and dynamic multidisciplinary team, based at Royal London and Mile EndHospitals, with rotations in HASU and acute stroke, community stroke team, acute neurosciences and neuro trauma, hyper-acute neuro rehabilitation and community neuro team.

We are excited to offer you an accelerated training and education program to aid in your development as an occupational therapist. You will join us as an established band 5 and once you successfully complete the relevant training and evidence agreed competencies you will transition into one of our Band 6 OT's on the neurological rotation.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for neuro Occupational Therapy, excellent communication skills, plenty of initiative and enthusiasm, and with the ability to work autonomously and as a part of a wider MDT. You will be committed to your own learning and development and ways to innovate occupational therapy practice.

Main duties of the job

To provide specialist assessment and intervention to clients with neurological conditions, determining neurological impairment, activity limitation and participation / role restrictions and develop the occupational therapy treatment program required.

To work in an integrated way with inter team colleagues and external agencies spanning acute, primary care, community health services and the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.

To participate in the continued service development of the Neurological Occupational Therapy service.

Essential criteria

Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy State registered (HCPC) Evidence of a CPD portfolio

Desirable criteria

Member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists Involvement in a relevant RCOT special clinical interest group (e.g. Specialist Section for Neurological Practice) Post graduate courses relevant to neurological rehabilitation or disability management Supervision training Fieldwork educators training

Experience

Essential criteria

Clinical experience in the NHS or similar health service across a range of acute/rehab settings. Clinical experience in the field of Neurology, either in acute, rehab or community, ideally 6 months. Experience of working in a Multidisciplinary Team Experience of working with interpreters and / or health advocates. Experience of contributing to professional development / clinical education of junior staff, students and assistants. Experience of contributing to audit / service improvement projects and working to timescale.

Knowledge

Essential criteria

Knowledge of a range of neurological conditions and the impairments and functional difficulties which they may cause. Knowledge of key assessments and available treatment options (and their evidence base) in neurorehabilitation / disability management e.g. repetitive task specific training, cognitive rehabilitation, fatigue management, splinting and prescription of equipment / minor adaptations. Knowledge of relevant guidelines e.g National Clinical Guideline for Stroke, Understanding of the legal responsibilities of the profession. Understanding of Clinical Governance and its implications for occupational therapy and client care

Desirable criteria

Understanding of National Service Frameworks, NICE guidelines and national strategy documents and their implementation in practice.
