Job summary

Our Clinical Assessment Unit based on the St Peter's Hospital site in Chertsey, is currently recruiting experienced healthcare support workers. The unit which forms part of the Urgent Care Division has 31 beds and is a fast-paced clinical environment where you can gain a wealth of experience and make a difference to the patients that use this service.Patients are referred to the clinical assessment unit for ongoing medical and surgical assessment and treatment with the aim to treat and discharge as promptly as possible with appropriate follow up or care in the service is provided 24 hours a day, every day of the year so applicants will need to be able to work a range of shifts which will include a varied shift pattern of long days, nights, weekends, and public holidays.Successful applicants will need to attend a comprehensive four-week induction and training programme.

We are seeking applicants that have experience in care and that have good communication skills, have competent IT skills, and have a kind, caring and compassionate nature.

The Trust offers onwards training for HCSWs including working towards the Care Certificate and achieving the competencies required to gain Band 3 status, Maths and English qualifications and the opportunity after a minimum period of 12 months to apply for the Nursing Associate Apprenticeship which if successful leads to a role as a Registered Nursing Associate.

Main duties of the job

Our Healthcare Support Workers are at the heart of providing direct patient centred care, supporting the Registered Nurses and Nursing Associates as well as the wider Multi-Disciplinary Teams.

The role is varied, equally challenging and rewarding, where you will have the opportunity to really make a difference to the experience of our patients. This will include caring for people during the acute stage of an illness or an event, supporting patients in their rehabilitation and recovery, and providing holistic and compassionate care for patients at the end of life.

Job responsibilities

Working as a Healthcare Support Worker in a ward / department within the hospital setting.

Carry out assigned tasks involved with direct patient care whilst maintaining the privacy and dignity of patients. This will be whilst demonstrating excellent care, compassion and communication, and in support of and supervised by a Registered Nurse or Nursing Associate, incorporating:

Continence Management Nutrition & Hydration Undertaking and recording of Vital Signs Moving & Handling of patients to support independence Infection Prevention and Control Safeguarding of adults and children. End of life and palliative care. Supporting patients with their hygiene needs Supporting patients with their communication Ensuring patients are involved in their care planning and decision making. Supporting patients living with dementia Supporting patients with a wide range of medical and surgical conditions such as asthma, COPD, following a stroke, cardiac related health conditions, diabetes, pre and post operative care. Maintaining a safe environment Falls prevention. Pressure area care.
