Their objective is to empower parents/carers of children with SEND to play an active and informed role in their child's education, while ensuring young individuals with SEND have the necessary advice and support to raise aspirations and make decisions regarding preparing for adulthood
RequirementsWe are seeking a Support Worker to join our amiable teamThe successful candidate will possess a background or personal involvement in special educational needs, disabilities, education, health, or social care
They will deliver customers confidential, unbiased, one-on-one support on SEND-related matters. They must demonstrate professionalism, approachability, and outcome orientationYou will also need the following:Have a qualification in SEND law or be willing to pursue ISPSEA SEN Law Training at Levels 1, 2, and 3 within the initial year of employmentExceptional communication and interpersonal skillsExperience in a leadership role, a composed yet assertive demeanor, and the ability to handle intricate conversations with diverse stakeholders
Proficient in Outlook, Microsoft software, and databasesA valid UK driving license and access to your vehicleResponsibilitiesDeliver individual support to a caseload of children and young people with SEND and/or their parentsCommonly addressed topics include:EHCP application, SEND tribunals, attendance issues, social care provision, exclusions, and SEN supportIllustrative support activities involve:interpreting documents, co-writing applications, attending meetings or mediations with the customer, monitoring deadlines on behalf of the customer, supporting or representing the customer at any stage of the SENDIST appeal process
Assist customers in understanding your role clearly by employing 'What to Expect' (eligibility criteria) and outcomes documents to define the purpose and limits of the support offered by you
Explain and reference relevant SEND legislation and policies when providing advice or support (e.g. Children and Families Act 2014, SEND Code of Practice 2014, Equality Act 2010, Care Act 2014, SEND Regulations 2014, SEN Support Guidance)Invest time in comprehending the obstacles customers encounter. Identify and advocate for solutions that will aid their engagement with SEND services, e.g., translation services, accessible forms, specific communication provisions, emotional support. Direct them to, and utilize these services as neededActively support children, young individuals, and/or their parents in self-advocacy to the extent feasibleCoach and motivate them to take charge and complete some tasks independently, even when you might be able to do so more quickly or effectively
Participate in at least 1 triage shift per week. This involves addressing phone calls and emails to the Polaris SENDIASS helplinesListen attentively to parents, carers, and young people who reach out to the helpline, providing information and advice that empowers callers to advocate for themselves
Maintain accurate records of your guidance and support. Continuously update database records, including the duration of contact with cases, specific case particulars, and documents related to caseworkCultivate professional associations with coworkers and stakeholders, including the Local Authority SEN, to secure swift and positive outcomes for children and young people
Contribute to generating content and resources for the SENDIASS website and social mediaPolaris Children's Services upholds the commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults, expecting all staff to share this dedication
The selected candidate will need to undergo an enhanced DBS Check, covered by Polaris Children's Services
