We are seeking a 0.6WTE Orthoptist to join us for a fixed term period of 12 months to cover maternity leave, starting September 2024. This post will suit a highly motivated and enthusiastic Orthoptist to join the department based at Queen Alexandra Hospital Portsmouth. You will join a forward thinking department of 5.8 WTE Orthoptists and 3 Optometrists. The Ophthalmology department has 15 Ophthalmologists, four of which specialise in paediatric ophthalmology and ocular motility.
Main duties of the job Clinically you will be supporting both adult and paediatric orthoptic services, the department supports the Trusts Stroke services and we are an accredited placement site. The successful candidate will be keen to develop their knowledge and skills in a supportive team environment. Candidates must have a degree/diploma in Orthoptics and current registration with HCPC is essential. If you share our values and our enthusiasm for getting it right for patients, colleagues, and our community, you will find a home at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust Job description Job responsibilities To diagnose and treat ocular motility and vision function and binocular vision problems in adults and children as an autonomous practitioner. To liaise with Head Orthoptists regarding problems during treatment. To be responsible for planning and implementing orthoptic treatment plans/ care pathways for patients of all ages. To refer complex ophthalmic problems to an Ophthalmologist as necessary. Perform Visual Fields testing on Humphrey and Octopus perimeters and fundus photography and OCT on patients referred by Ophthalmology, paediatrics and neurology. Screening at satellite clinics. To work as part of a flexible team. Person Specification Qualifications Essential- Degree/Diploma in Orthoptics
- Registration with HCPC
- Demonstrates sound clinical knowledge in full range of orthoptic clinical practise
- Experience of single handed clinics both acute and community.
- Experience of a specialist caseload
- Evidence of continuing professional development
