Senior Practitioner

Remote, United Kingdom Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council Full time
Job Introduction

Team:
Emergency Duty Team

Hours: 37.0 hours per week

Due to the recent expansion of the team, two full time permanent vacancies have arisen offering an exciting opportunity to join our Solihull Emergency Duty Team (EDT), within the Safeguards division of Children's Services.

This is a highly rewarding role where you have the opportunity to be part of a small and friendly team who deliver quality out of hours services for Children's and Adult Social Care.

We are a supportive and experienced team of professionals who are all Approved Mental Health Practitioners (and we can provide the training for those who are not yet AMHP) and Child Protection trained.

We work evenings, weekends, and bank holidays on a rota basis, and can offer team members flexibility to focus on any other commitments, hobbies and interests they may have outside of their rota'd hours.

As a Senior Practitioner in the EDT team, you will make a significant positive impact on people's lives in Solihull as you respond to calls from the general public, stake holders and service providers when it matters most, conducting child protection and adult safeguarding investigations, as well as carrying out assessments under the Mental Health Act, as required.

And due to the nature of this role, administration is mínimal, as the case is passed back to the relevant Social Work team once your shift is finished.

Whilst this role is home based, and most calls can be dealt with over the telephone, you will be required to go out at short notice to attend to emergency situations and as such there is a requirement that you are within easy reach of the borough, able to drive and have access to a car, therefore this role carries essential car user status.

Working with mínimal supervision you will have the autonomy to manage your own workload, however, there is always a manager on call to ensure you are supported in this fast-paced role where no two days are the same.

You will have a professional Social Work qualification, and Social Work England membership.

You will also have Approved Mental Health Practitioner (AMHP) status with experience of carrying out assessments under the Mental Health Act 1983, or you will be willing to undertake your Mental Health Practitioner qualification and training.

You will also need:

  • Substantial experience of conducting child protection investigations under Section 47 of the Childrens Act 198
  • Substantial experience of conducting adult safeguarding enquiries
  • Sound knowledge of relevant childcare and adult safeguarding legislation
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • The ability to work on your own initiative and make effective decisions under pressure.

In return, we offer:

  • Flexible working, including flexi leave up to 28 days per year and agile working arrangements
  • The opportunity to buy up to 10 days additional leave per year
  • Access to our Employee Assistance Programme a 24 hour independent, free and confidential advice and support service
  • Access to the Local Government Pension Scheme
  • Access to a broad suite of highquality training packages
  • Employee benefits including a staff discount card

This post includes 3 atypical payments for the requirement to work an out of hours duty rota, including nights, weekends and bank holidays.

Interviews will be held on 24 July 2024.
This post will require a DBS check.

This post is covered by the Fluency Duty, as outlined in the Code of Practice on the English language requirements for public sector workers.
