We are recruiting on behalf of our client who is looking for a Facilities Assistant (porter), to work between three different sites within the Solihull area.


The use of your own vehicle/transport is essential

Role & Responsibilities

  • To undertake general facilities and security duties across the Council House and other sites across Solihull, providing a high quality facilities service for the benefit of staff and customers.
  • To open & close various corporate buildings at designated times in line with the business needs of the Council and to be available for occasional access to buildings out of hours.
  • To carry out routine Health & Safety inspections, ensuring all security systems and procedures are adhered to.
  • To comply with Health & Safety legislation.
  • To participate in out of hours emergency, call out procedures.
  • To undertake general facilities and security duties.
  • To oversee maintenance repairs, cleaning operations and waste removal, overseeing contractors.
  • Collection, verification and delivery of parcels and packages throughout the buildings.
  • Arrange for the delivery and distribution of supplies/products and the collection/removal of waste or unwanted items including paper and furniture.
  • To participate in staff relocations involving the transfer of furniture and equipment and other ancillary tasks
  • Monitoring of contractors whilst on site; their entry/exit and work undertaken whilst in the building to ensure that they comply with SMBC rules and procedures
  • Litter pick, sweep and generally keep clear immediate access areas within the site boundary.
  • To participate in work rotas to ensure that the buildings are operated in accordance with business service needs.
  • To be contactable outofhours (on a rota basis) in case of emergency
  • The post holder will be required to wear a uniform and safety footwear that will be provided.
  • Use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel
  • To assist and participate in any safety evacuation or other emergency in line with business continuity.
  • Assist in the routine maintenance of the buildings such as changing light bulbs, cleaning shades and diffusers, undertaking minor repairs, emergency cleaning operations.
  • Ensure that all toilets and kitchen areas are appropriately stocked
  • Undertake security patrols of the building (including outofhours, if required) to ensure that the buildings are always secure and to assist with emergency procedures such as fire activations and lift breakdowns.
  • Monitor and report accordingly car parking arrangements relating to the site.
  • To undertake the movement of furniture and equipment as directed by managers/supervisors.
  • Any other appropriate duties as and when required.
