Manufacturing Operations Director - Mid Cornwall

Realistically, most applicants for this opportunity aren't going to be the right fit. A pessimistic opening gambit to a recruitment listing? Perhaps, but not necessarily. There's no denying it - this is a big job. The role calls for an expert people manager, developer, and mentor. An individual with impeccable technical and commercial acumen. An individual that can act as the key voice for a site that employs a sizeable team, assuming pivotal responsibility for the success of a complex, manufacturing facility. They'll be the site number-one. The role isn't going to be for everybody. But the rewards for the right person are almost limitless. Firstly, you'll be based in beautiful Cornwall, just moments away from a stunning coastline and a fantastic quality of life. Secondly, you'll command a salary and incentive package that will take the role comfortably into six-figures. Cornwall isn't famed for its financially lucrative career opportunities yet this proposition far exceeds the national average remuneration for a comparable opportunity. The opportunity:

Driven by a highly experienced tier-one leadership team, the Manufacturing Operations Director will join a like-minded business where quality, customer satisfaction, and employee wellbeing lie at the heart of everything they do. The candidate that we're searching for will lead the entire manufacturing process for a highly successful division, maintaining superb engineering and logistical standards, as well as leading and influencing a highly experienced and motivated team.

Core focus of the role to include:

  1. Plan, manage, and execute all aspects of manufacturing controls to ensure exceptional efficiency that meets rigorous customer demands
  2. Design, implement, and develop ongoing process and cost control efficiencies assuming complete P&L responsibility
  3. Manage all aspects of value stream activities ensuring strict adherence to high-quality product standards that meet strict regulatory requirements
  4. Lead, develop, and motivate a large team of direct and indirect reports
  5. Ensure that sound H&S policy and practice resonates throughout the site
  6. Work closely with sales, marketing, and customer support colleagues, acting as a senior ambassador to major clients
  7. Analysis of tooling effectiveness and pioneering material waste reduction strategy
  8. Lead with outgoing commentary related to site performance, budgets, forecasts, and cost controls
  9. Undertake a degree of national and international travel where required
The person we're searching for:

A highly experienced manufacturing and/or engineering professional with at least three years of recently gained experience in a similar position. Key skills and experience to include:

  • A business or engineering degree
  • A dynamic, people-orientated, change agent, with a passion for driving and supporting teams, providing mentorship and developing people
  • Superb manufacturing and production expertise with a strong knowledge of lean tooling, equipment, mechanics, and value streams
  • Exceptional commercial awareness
  • A sound understanding of P&L, budgets, forecasting, and cost controls
  • Strong IT aptitude (MS Office and bespoke digital tools)
  • Six Sigma Green Belt (or higher)
The role:

This is a full-time, permanent position operating from our client's site in mid Cornwall. Base salary circa £115,000+ Exceptional bonus scheme + enhanced benefits package + relocation support (where required).
