We are seeking to recruit a flexible, motivated administrator for our fast paced and friendly Medical Appraisal and Revalidation Team.


In line with GMC and NHS England guidance, all doctors are required to participate in annual medical appraisal and five yearly GMC revalidation.

We deliver high quality administrative support for the Medical Appraisal and Revalidation process for approximately 1400 Consultant, SAS, Clinical Fellow and Specialty doctors with a prescribed connection to UHSussex and four local hospices.

The Medical Appraisal and Revalidation Team have offices in The Sussex Eye Hospital, Brighton and HR Block, Worthing Hospital.

There may be times when you are working alone but you could also be working in a busy office so it is important that you have a flexible approach to working.

You will have a positive outlook, excellent communication skills and be successful when prioritising your workload.

You should feel confident speaking to colleagues over the phone and in person. Experience using Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel is essential.


The role of MAAR Administrator is to provide efficient and high quality administrative support to the Medical Appraisal and Revalidation process, ensuring daily activities are completed in accordance with agreed procedures.


Utilising excellent time management, organisational and communication skills and an adaptable, flexible approach to produce work of a high standard within expected targets.

The MAAR Administrator will not only need to be able to work alone and use their own initiative but also as part of a team.

It may be necessary to work across sites when the service demands.

  • Administrative duties including diary management, word processing, general day-to-day creation and management of spreadsheets and databases, photocopying, printing, scanning, opening post, the safe disposal of confidential waste and general office duties as required.
  • Book venues for meetings or education sessions, keeping accurate details of associated costs.
  • Collect, sort and re-direct received post. Open all incoming post unless marked to a specified member of staff. Distribute post to appropriate staff members. Take out-going post to collection point promptly each day.
  • Create, maintain and archive electronic records.
  • Engage in collaborate problem solving with co-workers and staff and other outside agencies.
  • Ensure that the department runs smoothly and efficiently to meet internal and government targets.
  • Follow office procedures and practices in allocated tasks.
  • Make bookings or appointments as required.
  • Manage diaries and arrange meetings and appointments for internal and external parties using appropriate electronic systems, including maintaining department managers, own and departmental diaries and ensuring shared calendars are up to date at all times.
  • Manage work without supervision, seeking advice where necessary, and act independently within appropriate guidelines.
  • Maintain and assist with the preparation of up-to-date website guidance in relation to the team's responsibilities for revalidation and appraisal on MAAR Intranet.
  • Maintain health and safety and report all incidents and accidents to the Medical Appraisal and Revalidation Manager as soon as possible, in accordance with departmental and trust policy.
  • May be required to advise others on work of the Medical Appraisal and Revalidation team.
