Summary

Harris Academy Merton is currently looking to appoint a dedicated and experienced individual to support, assist and enable children to meet their academic and social targets.

This includes improving the standards of achievement by the early removal of barriers to learning for children/young people and families within our Academy.

The successful applicant will also provide emotional support for vulnerable children and families and record & monitor intervention, alongside supporting the Safeguarding Team and leading Early Help.

Main Areas of Responsibility

Your responsibilities will include:

  • To assist the Designated Safeguarding Lead for the Academy. To maintain a professional and confidential approach at all times with a clear understanding of safeguarding issues and procedures.
  • To support the DSL to promote a visible and effective Early Help Team at the Academy to support students and families.
  • To support the Mental Health Lead, to improve the emotional wellbeing of students and staff at the Academy and lead a team of mental health champions.
  • To support with the delivery of RSHE for vulnerable students and those with SEND.
  • To raise standards of student attainment and achievement within the whole curriculum area and to monitor and support student progress and attainment with particular regard to SEND, Young Carers, LAC and EAL students.
  • To assist the development of appropriate behavioural intervention strategies, for example, multiagency meetings, 1:1 support and advice sessions and anger management sessions.
  • To implement a full behaviour support and intervention service effectively and efficiently to students and staff to support the Academy's Behaviour Policy.
  • To monitor and support the overall progress and development of students as a mentor/assistant course facilitator.
  • To facilitate and encourage a support/intervention experience which provides students with the opportunity to achieve their individual potential.
  • To oversee the Peer Mentoring Programme, to initiate, train and monitor peer mentors to provide support to younger students.
  • To effectively use the CPOMS system to record and monitor Early Help interventions and record safeguarding information.
  • To support the DSL lead the safeguarding priorities of the Academy and help deliver appropriate training to staff, students and parents.
  • To attend parents evening to promote the safeguarding and wellbeing of students and families.
  • To liaise with safeguarding external agencies to plan and implement intervention and support programmes.
  • To meet with students & provide counselling/advice as appropriate.
  • To make contact with parents/carers as and when required under the direction of the DSL.
  • To supervise workshops run by outside providers; to facilitate inhouse workshops.
  • Keep up to date with the needs of young people & the problems they face through national and local agendas.
  • To help students make appropriate targets and understand how they can make improvements to their performance where necessary.
  • Be available to carry out home visits to parent/carers of students who are unable/unwilling to attend the Academy. Setting up & implementing appropriate support to those families who mightotherwise avoid education.
  • Make recommendations for appropriate alternative provision/tuition for students unable to access mainstream educational provision

Qualifications & Experience Qualifications, Knowledge & Training**- Educated to GCSE Level or equivalent (including BTEC) in Maths and English Grade C or Level - Competent in the use of Microsoft Office packages.

  • Proficient in the use of computers and databases.
  • Basic skills in English language and grammar.

Experience

  • Previous experience in administration capacity.
  • Experience of working within a customer service role involving liaison with colleagues, stakeholders or clients.
  • Experience of supporting children and young people with a variety of needs.
  • Experience of working in a dynamic working environment where adaptability and flexibility are key features.
