Job Title: Senior Nurse Matron at Cancer and Associated Specialties Division

The Cancer and Associated Specialties Division is looking for an experienced senior nurse to join the CAS Matron team for a 6-9 month secondment. We value work-life balance and are open to discussing part-time work/job sharing options.

Our Division encompasses various specialties including Oncology, Renal, Burns & Plastics, Urology, Thoracic Surgery, Palliative Care, Infectious Diseases, Pathology, and Haematology.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Challenge current working practices within specialties in a positive manner to promote continuous improvement
  • Promote a better understanding of nursing and how professionals can support patients in accessing appropriate services
  • Lead the development of new clinical policies and procedures within Clinical Specialties
  • Promote joint working, collaboration, and mutual respect among staff
  • Ensure safety and cleanliness in the clinical environment
  • Influence nursing practice through evidence-based and reflective methods
  • Support the shared governance agenda across the Trust

Job Responsibilities

Under the vision of delivering excellence, the Matron will provide professional leadership management to the Nursing Service within the Division. Responsible for operational management of the nursing workforce, ensuring high-quality evidence-based practice across hospital, community, and outreach settings. The Matron will drive up standards of clinical care, modernize patient services, and involve patients and carers in service development.

Training and Qualifications

Essential

  • Qualified first-level Nurse with current NMC registration
  • First degree in Nursing or relevant health-related subject

Desirable

  • Masters degree or equivalent post-basic training/experience

Experience

Essential

  • Significant post-registration experience including management and leadership

Desirable

  • Project management experience

Communication/Relationship Skills

Essential

  • Able to motivate, support others, and encourage effective team working
