*Term time counsellor position*Rookie Minds is part of Rookie Rockstars, a registered Scottish Young Persons Mental Health and Well-being charity. Our mental health counselling service 'Rookie Minds', offers counselling to children within a school setting. Rookie Minds is seeking to recruit exceptional, qualified counsellors with a minimum of 1 year's experience working with children and young people, preferably within a school environment.


The successful applicants will be an integral part of the school team and required to work closely with school staff and key people from the local Council to deliver evidence-based counselling to pupils in primary schools and their families in a variety of school settings across Stirlingshire.

Currently we are seeking counsellors experienced in both talking therapy and non-directive play therapy to work 2 days per week during term time only.


In addition to providing confidential individual counselling, other activities include running group sessions, providing support and advice for staff and parent/carers.


We aim to help children and young people develop the tools necessary to navigate through a range of difficult and complex experiences.

An understanding of the impact mental health has on attainment in education is fundamental.

Duties and Key Responsibilities

  • The post holder will be based in mainstream primary schools and will offer counselling support to children within the cluster schools in term time
  • Provide support to teaching staff within schools
  • Carry out counselling sessions for small groups of young people
  • Carry out assessment interviews with new referrals and evaluate appropriate counselling methods
  • Work closely with Senior Leadership teams and Designated Safeguarding Leads within the school
  • Liaise with parents and carers
  • Develop and maintain adequate records of clinical work
  • Report writing
  • Fulfil professional supervision requirements
  • Contribute to the evaluation of the service by using a range of clinical wellbeing, evaluation and measurement tools
  • Comply with all policies, procedures and service standards
  • Undertake relevant training to continue professional development
  • Keep informed of needs and issues that affect young people
  • Build healthy relationships with parents and school staff, as well as outside agencies and referral organisations
  • Attend regular meetings with the Line Manager and provide updates on services provided
  • Attend and contribute to team meetings

Qualities/Skills:

  • This is a school clusterbased post requiring adaptability and ability to exercise a considerable degree of planning and liaison with cluster schools
  • Excellent and proven organisational and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong report writing skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships
  • Ability to manage caseloads
  • Exceptional time management to successfully deliver effective and efficient services
  • Ability to work on own initiative and be selfmotivated
  • Demonstrate a sound sense of personal integrity and ethics
  • Collaborative working style and strong work ethic
  • PVG scheme member
  • Membership of an appropriate counselling organisation (BABCP, COSCA, BACP, PTUK/BAPT or similar)
The salary is £27500 per year based on 5 days per week.
