Job Purpose
The post holder will facilitate the delivery of a hairdressing within HMP YOI Stirling. You will be responsible for the effective management and development of women and young people in custody.

You will support women and young people in custody in gaining appropriate work experience and nationally recognised qualifications City and Guilds or SVQ level 3 (minimum) aimed at improving their employment prospects on release.

You will provide direct training and assessment of relevant skills for women in custody as well as provide support for training provided by external partners within the function Responsibilities Deliver certified training to meet targets set for the establishment in accordance with the Performance Contract.

Effectively train, instruct and assess prisoners in the theory and practice required to achieve the standards set by the relevant examining body or training organisation Effectively train, instruct and assess prisoners in the theory and practice required to achieve the standards set by the relevant examining body or training organisation.

Liaise with external partners re service delivery options and training requirements, Make all necessary arrangements to ensure delivery partners are appropriately inducted and vetted prior to working in the custodial environment Maintain security and discipline in the workplace, in accordance with SPS security standards, ensuring the security of young people and women in custody.

Recording and completion of all routine information, documentation and communications including attendance, Wages and PR2 case management entries Ensure effective use of resources:
budget, prisoner numbers, wages, materials, and equipment within functional area.

Provide support to other offender outcome / residential functional areas to ensure effective service delivery Maintenance of a safe, healthy and standards compliant working environment through regular and effective Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment.

Support, guide and assist the work of prisoners employed within the functional area, ensuring compliance with SPS rules, regulations and operating standards Ensure effective maintenance of machinery and equipment is carried out in accordance with maintenance plans and regulations.

Ensure all prisoners, staff and partners within functional area adhere to Health & Safety requirements, all relevant safe systems of work and hygiene standards Person Specification SPS recruitment and selection practice is based on the fundamentals of our Competencies for Success Framework.

This identifies behaviours and standards required both of applicants seeking to join us, and our staff in their respective roles.

Assessment of specific behaviours, of which there are eight, will be determined by the role you are applying for.

Whilst it is unlikely you will be assessed on all of them, you will be assessed on those identified as key to role.

Qualification Requirements Served a recognised apprenticeship and achieved an accredited qualification in Hairdressing (City & Guilds or SVQ Level 3 equivalent) Essential Hold the A1 Assessor Award or willing to work towards.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Experience Requirements Sound knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, particularly in relation to Risk Assessments, Safe Systems of Work and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSSH) regulations.

Essential Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and motivate others to achieve positive results. Ability to assess candidate skills levels through observation and instruction. Esssential Experience of delivering training in a commercial environment.
