Production Line Operative - Powertrain

We are looking for Mechanics within the Vehicle Dismantling Industry

Purpose:


The primary purpose of a powertrain dismantler is to remove and salvage powertrain components from end-of-life or damaged vehicles for recycling, refurbishment, or resale.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Safely and efficiently dismantle powertrain components such as engines, subframes, transmissions, differentials, axles, and driveline assemblies from salvage vehicles using appropriate tools and techniques.
  • Utilise hand tools, power tools, and specialised equipment to disassemble powertrain components, ensuring proper care to avoid damage.
  • Identify and sort salvageable powertrain components that can be refurbished, reconditioned, or sold to customers, while distinguishing those that are unsalvageable.
  • Organise and store dismantled powertrain components in a systematic manner to optimize space and ensure efficient retrieval.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate inventory records of dismantled powertrain components, both physically and digitally.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and following proper dismantling procedures to prevent accidents or injuries.
  • Perform quality checks on dismantled powertrain components to ensure they meet company standards and customer expectations.
  • Work closely with other team members, such as Production Line, Supervisors and Managers, to ensure smooth operations and timely availability of salvaged components.
  • Regularly clean and maintain tools and equipment, reporting any issues or malfunctions to supervisors for prompt repairs.
  • Contribute to process improvement efforts by suggesting ways to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and streamline powertrain dismantling operations.
  • Maintain a clean and organised workspace within the Powertrain area, promoting a safe and efficient work environment.

Experience & Essential Qualities:

  • Meticulous attention to detail when disassembling, inspecting, and sorting powertrain components.
  • A knack for troubleshooting and problemsolving when encountering challenging dismantling scenarios.
  • Effective time management skills to work efficiently and meet daily dismantling targets.
  • The ability to collaborate with colleagues, communicate effectively, and contribute positively to a team environment.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing tasks, vehicle types, and dismantling requirements as salvage inventory varies.
  • A strong commitment to following safety protocols and guidelines at all times
  • Excellent organisational skills to keep track of dismantled components, maintain inventory, and ensure a tidy workspace.
  • Understanding of environmental regulations and commitment to ecofriendly practices when handling fluids, hazardous materials, and waste.
  • A high level of integrity, honesty, and professionalism in all aspects of the job.

Remuneration:

Salary:
£32,160 per annum

Working Hours: 42.5hrs per week Monday to Friday

Working Pattern:
Early shift 6:00am to 3:00pm. Late shift 3:00pm to 12:00am, on a swing shift basis.
