Hours:37.5 hours per week. We run a 7 day operation here at Sizergh so you'll need to work weekends on a rota basis. We always plan rotas well in advance and will work with your other commitments wherever possible.

We work closely together in a supportive learning environment helping one another to make Sizergh's garden the best it can be.


The Grade 2 Listed Garden of 14 acres is horticulturally complex and diverse so no two days will be the same.

Renowned for its productive kitchen garden and stumpery, as well as being home to the largest limestone rock garden in the UK and holding four national collections of Hardy Fern, the gardens are continually evolving and developing.

What you'll be doing:

As a hands-on Gardener, you'll assist in making sure that the gardens are maintained and presented to an exceptionally high standard throughout the year, the garden only closes one day in the year You'll be hard working and enthused and knowledgeable about the varied plants within the garden.

The role will include a range of practical horticultural tasks to develop, enhance and conserve the garden and contribute to the delivery of projects under the supervision of the Head Gardener.

You'll also assist garden volunteers and support and help them to make the most of their time here.

You'll be expected to interact with the public daily, last year we welcomed over 138K visitors so you will be confident answering their many questions or help with gardening workshops and tours when needed.
