The Role

Do you have a prior research background in Electrical Engineering? Are you looking to join the UK's largest academic research group in Electrical Power?


If so, the School of Engineering at Newcastle University has an exciting opportunity for you to contribute to a challenging research project, focusing on the control of electric drives for torque ripple and NVH reduction.

The project is funded and led by GKN Automotive, a global leader in e-drive technologies.


This is a unique opportunity, through which the successful individual will become part of the Driving the Electric Revolution (DER) network, a key initiative of the UK Government.


You will collaborate with industrial experts as your research will be conducted within the GKN Automotive Advanced Research Centre, for which Newcastle University and the University of Nottingham are part of.


You should have a PhD awarded (or nearing completion) in control of electric drives and a good Honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.

The appointment is fixed-term, tenable for 9 months in the first instance from 1st April 2023 and is available on a full-time basis (37 hours per week).

Key Accountabilities

  • Conduct research on control of electric drives for torque ripple and NVH reduction
  • Securing all resources necessary to undertake research
  • Overseeing and managing research work and the efficient use of resources
  • Ensuring project plans are completed and reviewed
  • Monitoring and reviewing project performance against project plans
  • Providing regular research project performance update reports to the management
The Person

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Experienced in using simulation tools (eg. PLECS, Saber, PSim, Pspice or Matlab Simulink simulators)
  • Understanding of electric drives and mechanical design
  • Experience of, or exposure to, article publications in high profile journals
  • Experience of, or exposure to the dissemination of research outputs to a range of audiences in a variety of formats and settings (e.g. peers, students, public; journal papers, conferences and web material)
Desirable

  • Experience of working in industry
  • Very good communications, writing and negotiation skills

  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise with local and international stakeholders (government, industry, public) as a representative of the University

Qualifications:
