What we can offer/ responsibilities
You will be supervised by the Head of Legal for Middle East and Africa (based in the UK) and work alongside experienced in-house legal counsels spread across Middle East, Africa and Europe
You will work alongside other UK-based legal interns supporting Europe, Middle East & Africa and Legal Ops functions – you will be expected to work together as team, supporting each other
We can offer you hands-on corporate and commercial law experience. You will, as a minimum:
- learn about and assist with legal issues that an international telecommunications/ IT service provider faces on a day-to-day basis
- assist in the reviewing and drafting of commercial contracts and corporate secretarial documents
- help with contract interpretation and matters relating to data protection and company law
- have the opportunity to join client meetings and calls, conduct research and practice legal drafting.
Duration and expenses
Each internship will be for 3-6 months (with possible extensions for up to 12 months) in our Middle East and Africa legal team and based in the UK (we have a flexible hybrid working pattern – you will be able to work remotely). You will be provided with a company laptop.
The internship is unpaid - it will be on a volunteer basis, but there is a generous expenses reimbursement scheme (details of which can be provided).
Application requirements
To apply, you will need to meet the following criteria:
Education. Either of the following:
- a 2:1 or first class undergraduate honours degree in law obtained from a UK university, or
- be in your final year of a law degree course at a UK university, and have taken commercial or corporate law as a second or third year option and be on track for at least a 2:1
Location. During the internship, able to be within approximately 1 hour's travelling time of:
- Slough railway station, or
- Canning Town railway station (East London)
Right to Work. Be able to prove your right to work in the UK:
- be a British or Irish citizen (birth certificate or passport), or
- have an appropriate graduate visa or other right to work status (Prove your right to work to an employer: Using immigration documents - GOV.UK ))
Availability. Be able to start on:
- any date on or before 17 June 2024 (applications must be submitted by Friday, 24 May 2024), or
- 5 August 2024
Exceptions. If you do not meet the education or location criteria, for example because you have an undergraduate degree in a subject other than law, you will need to provide persuasive reasons in a covering letter (email) explaining why we should grant you an exception.
