ABOUT THE ROLE

Liberty Global operates across a landscape involving an interesting mix of technology domains covering both the cloud native and enterprise spaces. These include customer facing entertainment and connectivity services, back office IT, network virtualization and edge computing domains.

The Director of Cloud Centre of Excellence is accountable to ensure each team or OpCo receives the necessary access and support to the latest guidelines and standard methodologies and to the relevant technology trends analysis. You will collaborate with the OpCos and the Central org to facilitate transformation programs and to sign-off on their related cases.

Also, the owner of the role will nurture the creation of the cloud engineering community across the group and will make sure our engineering culture focuses more on Cloud adoption, digital transformation and automation.

You will collaborate with the Liberty Global Technology leadership team to drive the technical architecture transformation that would enable the evolution of the business processes and applications from a traditional on-premise deployment to a cloud native and future proof evolution.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES Governance
  • Ensure proper budget follow-up and tracking for the Cloud across Liberty Global group
  • Have a meaningful role in cloud selection decision process and promote the cloud architecture and guidelines adapt to OpCos needs
  • Manage central budgets for the cloud transformation projects
  • Track and follow-up in the cost optimization opportunities regarding the cloud usage
Community
  • Foster and support engineering community aiming to provide knowledge and best practices share across teams
  • Encourage the engineering community to contribute back to the strategy and development through innovation
  • Organize regular cloud summits and events
  • Lead the cloud excellence recognition program
Readiness
  • Work closely with Liberty Global central teams and OpCos to identify business requirements and opportunities to digital transformation
  • Build in partnership with OpCos, Central and Finance teams the plans of record and cases for cloud adoption and digital transformation projects
  • Ensure architectural guidelines and best practices are followed
  • Promote the strategic workload placement policy and objectives
  • Ensure knowledge transfer is in place allowing OpCos to progress in their projects
  • Review regularly the progress made in the execution against the plan of records and find opportunities for further improvements
  • Working with industry leaders and internal teams to find opportunities to generate additional revenues, reduce organizational complexity and costs, provide business benefits and foster innovation.

  • Lead, support, mentor and develop a team of highly skilled and motivated individual contributors
  • Help build a collaborative and transparent culture of continuous improvement, within the team and across domains, while mentoring junior team members

  • Experience and industry know-how related to the cloud computing and general IT evolution trends

  • Business acumen – able to connect the technology advantages with the business benefits and opportunities
  • Extensive experience and expertise analysing the TCO, Return on Investment and business value of migrating on-premise workloads into public cloud
  • A coaching / collaborative style of working and leadership.
  • Ability to present information tailored to a diverse range of stakeholders (e.g. technical, finance, executive)
  • Knowledge of Liberty Global organization. Relationship building.
Desirable skills & abilities:
  • Experience in a Telco environment and related challenges
  • Community spirit
PREFERRED EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Computer Science background (preferable)
  • Experience running large scale programs and teams
  • Industry specific work experience
