Job overview:

We are looking for a Principle Clinical Psychologist to join the Specialist Assessment Service in Solihull.


The team provides assessment and diagnosis services for Children with complex neuro-developmental difficulties including the possibility of an Autistic Spectrum Disorder.


This post offers the opportunity to work as part of 2 highly specialist and experienced multi-disciplinary teams with children up to 18 years of age and their families.


You will ensure the maintenance of standards within the psychology discipline group, take responsibility for supervision of other psychology colleagues and facilitate service developments within the specialist assessment service.


In addition there are opportunities for development of psychology leadership skills, audit and research and to be involved in the extension and further development of children's community therapy services within Solihull.


Main duties, tasks & skills required:

  • To provide leadership for the Clinical Psychologists, Educational Psychologist, Psychiatrist and Psychotherapist working within the SAS advising the clinical lead of all matters arising.
  • To take the lead role in coordinating multidisciplinary assessments and assessment planning and to deliver a diagnosis to children and families when appropriate
  • To have an advanced knowledge of ASD and how this can present in children/young people.
  • To have developed knowledge of other conditions including neurodevelopmental, genetic, learning and mental health needs that impact on a child's strengths and areas of need. To be able to differentiate between these and an ASD presentation.
  • To deputise for the Clinical Lead of the service as requested.
  • To support the Clinical lead in the planning, development and evaluation of the service
  • To provide clinical expertise and advice on psychology, psychiatry and psychotherapy related matters within the service.
  • To operationally coordinate designated staff performance through supervision, appraisal and training.
  • To work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of professional practice.
  • To utilise skills for audit, policy and service development and research taking responsibility for aspects of service development through audit.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Doctorate qualification in own field of expertise.
  • HCPC registration in own clinical speciality
  • Training in the supervision of others
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorder clinical diagnostic developments.
  • To identify own training needs seeking out and attending appropriate training when it is available.
  • To provide training, advice and support for less experienced psychologists and actively participate and contribute to CPD within the team.
  • To comply with HCPC guidelines and maintain a portfolio reflecting personal and professional development.
  • To keep own knowledge and practice up to date using information from a wide range of sources.

Desirable:

  • Additional demonstrated interest in Autism Spectrum Disorders.
  • Formal training in ADI-R, 3Di ,DISCO, ADOS training.
  • Eligible for/Chartered Clinical Psychologist membership with the British Psychological Society.
  • Training and experience in the completion of psychometric and neuropsychological assessment of children and young people.
  • Postdoctoral training and recorded CPD experience and /or further qualifications in one or more additional special
