London, Greater London, United Kingdom Theirworld Full time

Founded 22 years ago, Theirworld has evolved into a leading global children's charity dedicated to providing the best start in life for children and young people by addressing the education crisis and unleashing the potential of the next generation.

If you are passionate about issues like climate change, gender equality, inclusion, assisting refugees, and ensuring the voices of young people are heard in decision-making processes, then education plays a crucial role in driving significant change in these areas. If you want to be a catalyst for change, come on board.

We believe in driving significant change from an encouraging and inclusive environment. That's why, starting in 2024, we are in the second year of an innovative 4-day-working-week trial where all employees work Monday to Thursday and enjoy most Fridays off. Additionally, we offer hybrid working arrangements with most staff spending one day a week in the office.

Other benefits include:

  • Regular in-house training
  • Travel opportunities
  • Highly competitive salaries
About the Position

Theirworld is looking for an experienced economist, development, or humanitarian policy and advocacy expert to join the team as an External Relations consultant for the Act For Early Years campaign. The main responsibility involves managing external relationships with key countries and international donors, overseeing the tracking of early years investment commitments, and ensuring their implementation across various sectors. This consultancy requires a 10-days-a-month commitment for one year, allowing remote work with potential international travel as necessary (expenses covered).

Background

Eight years ago, global leaders pledged to ensure that all children have access to quality early childhood development and pre-primary education by 2030. Unfortunately, progress towards these goals has been slow. Launched in March 2023, Theirworld's Act for Early Years campaign aims to revolutionize early childhood support globally and get the world back on track.

This campaign advocates for increased support and funding to guarantee every child receives the best start in life. It is a call to action to make a lasting impact on the future learning, health, well-being, and socio-economic outcomes of the youngest members of society. The goal is to secure $1 billion in investments in early childhood development programs worldwide for children up to the primary school starting age.

Key Responsibilities

External Relationship Management:

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key international donor countries and relevant multilateral institutions.
  • Act as a link between Theirworld and external stakeholders, encouraging engagement and support for the Act for Early Years campaign and broader early years initiatives.
  • Engage directly with government officials to advocate for increased investments in early childhood.
  • Establish a system to regularly share insights on donor decisions to inform Theirworld's advocacy efforts.
  • Create easily accessible information about donors and government support for the early years to aid advocacy and campaigns.

Donor Investment Tracking System:

  • Develop and manage a system to track new donor commitments for early childhood initiatives.
  • Oversee the work of Theirworld's research assistant in monitoring new commitments from various sources.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure accurate data on commitments.

Public Reporting:

  • Collaborate with the communications team to ensure public sharing of new commitments on the Act for Early Years campaign website.
  • Provide regular updates on progress made in attracting new investments for early childhood.
Qualifications and Skills

Required:

  • Demonstrated experience in managing relationships with international donor countries.
  • Proven expertise in tracking and managing financial commitments, especially in development settings.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to represent Theirworld effectively.
  • Knowledge of government funding processes related to children's development, such as education, health, and social protection.
  • Understanding of early childhood development issues and a dedication to addressing children's learning challenges.
  • Familiarity with the early years policy and advocacy landscape across various domains.
