Your Role:

As the Assistant Showbiz Editor, your primary responsibility will be to provide fresh and engaging entertainment news to our dedicated online audience, who rely on us for the latest gossip.

You will operate within The Sun's dynamic digital environment, focusing on major TV programs, beloved celebrities, and breaking showbiz news stories.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Craft lively and engaging content in The Sun's distinctive tone.
  • Delegate tasks to reporters.
  • Stay updated on live TV shows, including daytime TV, soap operas, and reality TV, to extract the most relevant news that will captivate our readers.
  • Monitor social media activities of celebrities and TV shows to stay informed about the latest events and controversies.
  • Produce content using CMS (Wordpress) and collaborate with the picture desk and video team to incorporate relevant visuals and clips.
  • Brainstorm ideas and present them to the Showbiz Editor during the shift.
  • Identify and address any potential legal concerns while adhering to the PCC Code of Conduct.
  • Stay well-informed about showbiz, current events, and trends by reading various publications, especially our competitors, and listening to popular podcasts.

Requirements:

We are seeking an individual with experience in showbiz journalism, particularly on a celebrity or entertainment website, who is brimming with creative ideas, possesses a vast network of contacts, and thrives in a dynamic work environment.


  • Capable of delivering high-quality work under pressure consistently.
  • Attentive to details and proficient in fact-checking.
  • Skilled at identifying compelling showbiz news angles from TV, podcasts, and social media and pitching them effectively.
  • Proficient in writing and developing stories quickly under tight deadlines while maintaining quality.
  • Proactive, collaborative, and willing to take on various tasks.
  • Positive attitude, teamwork skills, and a self-starter approach to problem-solving.
  • Familiarity with The Sun brand across digital and print platforms.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends on a seven-day rotation schedule.
