Principal Modelling Engineer

We are expanding our modelling team at our head office in St Neots, looking for leadership and technical excellence delivering crucial elements of a large, state-of-the-art, System-of-Systems project.

You will help design, implement, test and support new capability with the opportunity to take part in both domestic and international trials using your teams' outputs, while working with both current and future technologies, techniques and methodologies.

Working autonomously, you will work in an agile manner (SCRUM), planning, reviewing and implementing sprint tasks for the whole team. You will report to, and be supported by, the Project Design Authority who will work with you to coordinate outputs, develop the team's skillset, and ensure high quality delivery to the customer.

You will develop into the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the project acting as the main point of contact for stakeholder queries.

The invaluable experience you'll bring , to help us achieve more.

You will manage a team of five modelling engineers generating Simulink based models for deployment onto CPU, GPU, and FPGA targets as part of production deliveries. Core to this role will be your understanding of Physics/Mathematical principles at Degree-level and experience as a Modelling engineer.

A working knowledge of electro-optic (EO) infra-red (IR) and radio frequency (RF) sensors, within a Defence setting would be beneficial but not essential. Experience working with synthetic electromagnetic environments and their associated software and hardware requirements and limitations is desirable.

Essential Experience

  • Experienced in leading and growing a modelling team.
  • Breakdown of technical tasking.
  • Experience modelling RF/EOIR environments, including interfaces between stand-alone models and a broader network.
  • Designing, building & testing Simulink models.
  • Experience deploying Simulink models to target hardware.
  • System Documentation (Design & Test).
  • A deep understanding of Physics/Mathematical principles at Degree-level.
  • Working in an agile manner (SCRUM).

Desirable Experience

  • Digital Signal Processing (DSP) techniques.
  • Electronic Warfare Domain knowledge.
  • Knowledge of Simulink Coder, HDL Coder, and GPU Coder toolboxes.
  • Experience with the FPGA build process for Xilinx targets.
  • Knowledge of RF/EOIR Sensors & Systems.
  • Experience across the Engineering Delivery Lifecycle.
