Join our Consumer Protection Enforcement team and play a key role supporting investigations that protect consumers from being taken advantage of.

About the CMA

We help people, businesses, and the UK economy by promoting competitive markets and tackling unfair behaviour. Our work is wide ranging, ambitious and often new and challenging.

The Consumer Protection Group takes targeted enforcement action to protect consumers from behaviour by businesses that breach consumer protection law and supports businesses with guidance on what they need to do to comply with the law


Some of our recent investigations include reviewing the unit pricing practices of grocery retailers; freeing people from costly ground rent lease clauses; tackling fake and misleading online reviews; and cracking down on companies that make misleading green claims.

The role


As an Assistant Case Officer, you will play an important role supporting the case team in carrying out investigations and enforcement action.

The key aspects of this role will vary from project to project and will depend on your relevant skills and experience, but you can expect your role to include:

  • Supporting the team by carrying out research and basic investigations
  • Managing case files and electronic records
  • Handling daytoday contacts with businesses under investigation and others relevant to the investigation
  • Organising internal and external team meetings regarding consumer protection investigation
  • Building and maintaining fair, open, professional and proactive communication with stakeholders including businesses under investigation
About you


You will need experience of managing your own workload, including the ability to successfully prioritise work in order to meet deadlines, in addition to good data and records management skills.

You will also need good research and analysis skills, with experience of gathering, summarising and presenting information. Good written and oral communication skills are equally important.
