Team Overview:
The radio spectrum is a vital resource used by most people in the UK, consumers as well as businesses. Spectrum connects every aspect of our lives through our mobile phones, wireless headphones, tablets and computers. Spectrum enables weather forecasting and TV and radio broadcasting to operate.

Without access to the radio spectrum the emergency services and national air traffic control would not be able to communicate, it is that important.


You will be a member of a small team of Compliance officers in the UK providing support to the team across the UK.

The team's role is to assist with the prevention and detection of harmful interference to spectrum, carrying out investigations as part of our statutory duties and functions which include:

Offences under the Wireless Telegraphy Acy 2006, particularly Illegal broadcast stationsOverall job purposes:
Develop, manage, and evaluate intelligence, assessing the threat, risk, harm, vulnerabilities, and opportunities which exist and identifying any gaps. Undertake the single point of conduct role (SPoC) for IPA and DPA requests. Conduct criminal investigations and enforce the legislation that relates to the protection and management of the radio spectrum. Carry out open source investigations and intelligence checks.

Key Responsibilities:


Intelligence- Prepare and deliver intelligence products to clearly and accurately inform decision making and providing advice on tactical options.- Complete and manage the process for Consented Data checks and Resource Requests.- Support the maintenance of relevant databases related to both intelligence and criminal investigations.- Lead on Open and Closed Source Investigations- Receive and assess information and intelligence and disseminate to relevant parties, in line with relevant legislation to ensure intelligence is processed correctly.- Primary IPA communication SPoC.- Provide expert advice and support to applicants.- Maintain awareness of innovations for obtaining Communication Data.- Deliver training sessions to applicants on new IPA techniques, developments, and potential investigation opportunities.- Support IPCO inspections- Support management of data as required by Code of Practice regarding product obtained- Facilitate operational collaboration and tasking meetings and consolidate data from Teams Intelligence Requirements.- Maintain awareness of innovation within intelligence and enforcement to ensure implementation of latest techniques and tactics, best practice, and information relevant to the role.- Raise awareness with colleagues on intelligence techniques and processes.

Criminal Enforcement- Support and manage criminal investigations, conduct criminal interviews under caution, analysing information, setting intelligence requirements and utilising investigatory powers.- Produce case files for prosecution.- Conduct market surveillance investigation and compliance activities under the UK Radio Equipment Regulations and Electromagnetic Compatibility Regulations, and provisions contained in the Wireless Telegraphy Act. Work collaboratively with other teams and be lead inter-team liaison across a defined geographic area, taking on complex investigations from them.


Generic- Establish and maintain networks with internal and/or external partners at all levels of seniority to ensure appropriate information sharing in support of a timely response and to achieve shared objectives.- Adhere to all legal frameworks, key working principles, policies, and guidance relevant to the role to ensure information and intelligence is handled and processed legally.- Maintain the professional standards expected of a Criminal Investigations Investigator / Intelligence Officer.- Have a flexible approach to work, which may involve evenings and weekends, sometimes at short notice.
