Job summary

This is a fixed term funded role with the potential opportunity for permanent funding. The role is for a Band 7 Surgical Care Practitioner development post and is suitable for a qualified theatre/first assistant registered practitioner. It is recognized that this will provide the successful postholder the opportunity to train and develop in the role during the secondment period. In particular training and development with the use of robotic technology and seeking applicants who have this interest. The service is hoping to secure permanent funding for a substantive post in the future.

You will provide specialist-nursing expertise to patients on the elective and emergency pathway. They will act as an assistant to the surgeons and assist in robotic, laparoscopic, and open surgeries. In addition, they will work in elective clinic settings to assist the Gynae oncology team. They will be expected to attend ward rounds in Eastwood and Princess Anne Ward and other wards that have gynaecological patients on a rotational basis.

Main duties of the job

You will be an integral part of the team supporting the directorate in the delivery of key performance targets particularly the quality and experience agenda.

Provide pre, peri-, post- operative and post discharge supportand information to patients and carers to provide continuity of care Work with the Clinical Nurse Specialists and broader MDT team, in all aspects of patient care and provide an educational and supportive role to patients and their families. Support ward nursing staff with the care of the gynaecological patients and liaise between the medical, nursing staff and patients. Maintain current awareness of all developments in emergency surgery and the implications this may have on all aspects of patients' care, resulting in the development and updating of on-going education programmes for all staff Attend and participate in National study days and conferences as required.
