As a Depot Manager at Biffa, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the efficient and effective operation of our Tanker depots located in Sheffield, Wednesbury, and Burscough. You will be responsible for managing all aspects of depot activities, ensuring adherence to company policies, safety protocols, regulatory standards, and transport management regulations, including compliance with the Working Time Directive.

Operational Management: Supervise day-to-day depot operations, including scheduling, routing, and dispatching of all tankered waste collection activities. Monitor workflow to optimise efficiency, minimise downtime, and maximise resource utilisation. Implement strategies to improve operational processes and enhance productivity. Team Leadership: Provide leadership and guidance to depot office and driver staff, fostering a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement. Conduct regular performance evaluations, coaching, and training to develop employees and ensure high standards of service delivery. Promote a safe working environment by enforcing safety procedures, conducting safety audits, and addressing any health and safety concerns. Customer / Supplier Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and suppliers, addressing inquiries, concerns, and service requests in a timely and professional manner. Collaborate with sales and customer service teams to identify customer needs, develop solutions, and ensure customer satisfaction. Act as a liaison between customers and internal departments to facilitate effective communication and problem resolution. Financial Management: Manage depot budgets, expenses, and revenue targets, ensuring cost-effective operations and profitability. Analyse financial reports and key performance indicators to track depot performance and identify areas for improvement. Implement cost-saving initiatives and revenue-generating strategies to optimise financial performance. Compliance and Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, permits, and industry standards governing waste disposal and transportation. Oversee documentation and record-keeping processes to maintain accurate records and facilitate regulatory inspections. Stay informed about changes in legislation or industry regulations and implement necessary updates to ensure compliance.

Requirements

Here's what we require:

Proven experience in a management role within the waste management or logistics industry (CPC required). Strong leadership abilities with excellent communication, interpersonal, and decision-making skills. In-depth knowledge of waste disposal regulations, safety standards, and best practices. Proficiency in budgeting, financial analysis, and resource management. Ability to work effectively under pressure, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines. Familiarity with industry-specific software and technology (, routing software, telephony etc).
