Summary
The Cat Analyst will be a business partner to the specialty underwriters by providing them with pre-bind catastrophe risk analytics. This will primarily involve pre-bind pricing, in addition to supporting the Cat Manager in managing the data cleansing outsourcing relationship, helping enhance workflows for new and existing classes and being involved with ad hoc projects including model validation.

The Specialty classes currently consist of Energy & Construction, Fine Art & Specie and Marine Cargo. There is significant growth planned for Everest International, with growth across new regions and in new lines of business. This role will be integral to the development and embedding of catastrophe modelling capabilities throughout Everest Insurance International.

This position will be based in our London office with a hybrid schedule of working two days remote each week.

Key responsibilities:
  • Support the management the outsourcing team, ensuring data standards are met and risks processed timely and accurately, using Verisk vendor models and other external data sources for the Specialty classes of business
  • Assist in the monthly roll-up process for the specialty classes, including running the probabilistic analysis in AIR Touchstone and updating reinsurance assumptions
  • Develop tools to help automate current Cat modelling processes
  • Support catastrophe event response reporting
  • Communication of cat model output to key stakeholders including underwriters, actuarial and senior management
  • Assist Exposure Management in monitoring aggregations against risk appetites
  • Collaborate, present, and share knowledge with the wider Exposure Management team and Group Exposure Management function
  • Ad hoc projects to help advance the function
Qualifications, Education & Experience:
  • Experience working in a catastrophe modelling / exposure management team desirable; or a graduate with a relevant degree/work experience
  • Experience of working with natural catastrophe models; Verisk preferred
  • Knowledge of Lloyds Exposure Management requirements (desirable)
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with experience presenting to Underwriters
  • Strong technical skillset (e.g. Excel / SQL / GIS / PowerBI / Python / R)
  • Ability to work under own initiative and show flexibility to meet business needs
  • Ambitious and inquisitive, keen to work closely with the wider Cat team, to drive change in the function
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others, including senior management
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively within a small dynamic team and build strong working relationships across teams and regions
  • Ability to think differently to find innovative solutions to problems
