What does the Service do?


Re is a Joint Venture between the London Borough of Barnet and Capita delivering Highways, Planning and Regulatory services on behalf of the Borough.

The Re Highways Service exists to provide high quality and cost-effective highways and transportation managementsolutions, which are of real benefit to residents, businesses and visitors of the London Borough of Barnet, both now and into the future.

What is the Purpose of This Role?


Flood & Water Management sits within the Asset Management team and as the SuDS Officer you will be involved with ensuring that new developments are designed to account for and manage surface water flood risk.

The role may require occasional out of normal hours working to facilitate the successful delivery of the programme.

Your high-quality planning advice will ensure that the new developments are compliant to local and national policies in relation to surface water flood risk.

This will make a real difference to managing the current and future flood risk in the Borough.

You will be responsible for effective customer and stakeholder engagement and awareness, providing customer service excellence at all times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Liaising with colleagues in the Local Planning Authorities as well as Developers and consultants to ensure that information on flood risk and SuDS meets best practice and national policy.
  • Reviewing Flood Risk Assessments for proposed developments in line with the National Planning Policy framework.
  • Leading on the delivery of the SuDS strategy for the Council including highway SuDS opportunities and preparing a schedule for SuDS delivery.
  • To liaise and deal courteously and in line with policy with all enquiries from elected Members, members of the public, and stakeholders to deliver service excellence, including the preparation of high quality, factual, letters, technical reports and otherdocuments as required.
  • To maintain technical and resource records and undertake research and technical investigations as directed.
  • To deliver, at all times, a professional technical service aligned to "the Way We Work" contributing to Re and the Council's wider objectives, responding to customers' needs and the principles of continuous improvement.
  • To attend internal and external meetings, maintaining service excellence and customer care at all times.
  • To take ownership of personal training and development needs, completing all specified training to standard and to time, and keep up to date with latest industry developments.
  • To ensure compliance with all Health & Safety legislation and associated codes of practice, Re and Council policies.
  • To carry out all duties with due regard to the Re's Customer Care, Equalities, Information Governance, Data Protection, GDPR, Financial Regulations and Health and Safety policies and procedures.

Essential Experience

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant discipline
  • Knowledge and experience of surface water drainage and implementation
  • Experience in reviewing drainage plans and calculations as part of the development management process
  • Experience of sustainable drainage policy, design and practice
  • Reviewing Micro drainage or causeway calculations
  • Customer care awareness
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to keep good work records
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Word and Excel
  • Full driving licence or the ability to travel around the borough on a daily basis
