An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Infection Prevention and Control Team (IPCT). We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated nurse to take up a post within our IPCT.

This would be an ideal opportunity for a nurse wishing to further their career in a specialist and pivotal field within healthcare. The role is interesting and includes regular visits to ward and department areas, proactive advice giving to patients, staff and visitors, problem solving, undertaking audits, infection surveillance, outbreak management and teaching.

Main duties of the job Participate in delivering the infection prevention and control clinical service throughout the Trust.

Deliver visible clinical expertise and a clear focus in the operational prevention and control of infection in a range pf care settings, contributing to the improvement in the quality of patient care.

To support the Trust in reducing the incidence of healthcare associated infections through risk assessment, surveillance, audit, intervention and education.

To be an effective role model that inspires and motivates others, empowering them to ensure all IPC policies and procedures are followed.

Participate in communication networks and collaborative working relationships with key personnel eg: Matrons, ward Mangers, Microbiology, Estates and Facilities and Occupational Health.   • Participate in Divisional infection prevention and control clinical partnership work.
  • Contribute to specific operational programmes in order to achieve a high level of compliance with national guidance for infection prevention and control, including The Health and Social Care Act (2008): Code of Practice on the prevention and control of infections.
  • Participate in work pertaining to the managed reduction of rates and numbers of healthcare-associated infection.
  • Support the monitoring of rates and types of infection within the Trust by collating and sometimes analysing infection surveillance and audit data.
  • Participate in infection prevention and control policies and guidelines related work in order to improve staff practice and safe patient care.
  • Participate in a clinical programme of education and training in all aspects of infection prevention and control.
  • Contribute to the body of knowledge that exists regarding the transmission of healthcare associated infection both locally and nationally.
  • Contribute to the continued co-ordination of the infection prevention and control service by deputising for the Infection Prevention and Control Clinical Specialists.
Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Registered Nurse/Midwife
  • Minimum of diploma level healthcare qualification
  • Relevant teaching qualification
  • Prepared to undertake a recognised degree level infection prevention and control qualification

  • Study at degree level
  • Relevant infection prevention and control qualification
Experiance Essential
  • Relevant post-registration experience and clinically up to date
  • Experience working in an acute healthcare organisation
  • Clinical teaching
  • Clinical audit
  • Management of change processes
  • Critical evaluation of research/evidence based studies
Knowledge and Skills Essential
  • Work within prescribed deadlines
  • Demonstrated capability to plan over timeframes and utilise resource requirements accordingly
  • Consistent under pressure in an unpredictable working environment (occasional exposure to distressing or emotional circumstances)
  • Computer literate and use of spreadsheets, databases and word-processing to create specialist reports
  • Works effectively as an infection prevention and control specialist
  • Frequent requirement for concentration where the work pattern is unpredictable
