To provide a comprehensive and confidential administrative and secretarial service to the Consultants and associate professional team. To create, manage and improve administrative processes and support the service. The post holder will also have line management responsibility for other administration, clerical and support staff.


We are looking to recruit a keen and enthusiastic individual who is experienced and able to undertake the role of a Medical Secretary.


The successful applicant will need to possess excellent administrative, secretarial and communication skills, with the ability to prioritise workloads and work under their own initiative.

The ability to work cohesively with other members of the team is essential.

You will have a sound educational background with knowledge of computerised systems and good keyboard skills.

Experience in working in a similar environment would be advantageous.

  • Completion of audio typing and/or dictation. Copy typing of clinical and nonclinical documentation, i.e. reports, discharge summaries, progress reports, using appropriate IT packages, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • To manage Consultants' diaries to ensure most effective use of time, and arrange meetings as appropriate. To organise all aspects of travel arrangements when required.
  • Preparation and circulation of papers for meetings, CPA reviews and extensive minute taking.
  • Dealing with telephone enquiries from internal and external agencies, patients and other staff. Using initiative to respond to enquiries on behalf of the Consultants and team or operating message taking system as appropriate.
  • Set up and maintain filing systems. Retrieval of information as required, using IT systems and Internet, as appropriate.
