We are looking for Lead Associates to join the supervisory teams within the Wholesale Banks Department of the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

The Wholesale Banks Department sits within the Supervision, Policy and Competition Division of the FCA and has responsibility for the conduct of business supervision of investment banking groups.- Key Roles and Responsibilities Understanding firms' business strategies and activities, how they are changing in response to the external environment and what implications these changes have for wholesale conduct risks.


  • Assertively supervising firms by developing and driving forward the firm supervisory strategy, identifying and quickly mitigating new and existing crystallised issues.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective relationships with senior management at firms, internal stakeholders and other regulators.
  • Briefing senior management, verbally and in writing.
  • Taking responsibility for leading the FCA's supervision by building relationships and developing engagement with other teams.
  • Proactively identifying opportunities to create efficiencies and embedding FCA Transformation in an effective way.
  • Supporting the management team in running the department and taking an active role in coaching and mentoring junior team members (in the future formal people management responsibilities may be given to the role).
  • Collaborating inclusively, contributing to an environment where all opinions are listened to and respected and engaging with the FCA Diversity and Inclusion agenda.

  • Skills/Experience Required
  • Minimum
  • Experience working in either a wholesale financial service environment, legal, consultancy or other regulatory organisation
  • Experience working in an analytical role
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Essential
  • A curious and inquisitive mindset, and an ambition to deliver in the public interest.
  • Evidence of analysing large amounts of complex information, identifying key themes, drawing logical conclusions and developing and implementing a strategy and plan of action.
  • Experience of analysing complex business models and products and/or wholesale conduct risks or evidence through another role you could quickly do this.
  • Evidence of using analysis to make logical conclusions and recommend proportionate courses of action.
  • Working effectively as part of a team by working inclusively, contributing to an environment where all opinions are listened to and respected.
  • Ability to prioritise and work quickly on key tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills: able to build and maintain relationships with senior management at wholesale banks, other regulators and staff at all levels within the FCA
  • Ability to work independently, use sound judgement and escalate issues appropriately
