Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for appointment to the role of Head of Post Registration School within the North West School of Pharmacy and Medicines Optimisation.

The successful post holder will have delegated responsibility to develop and lead the Regional Post - Registration Pharmacists Programme and team for NHS England in the North West. A key deliverable of this programme is to develop a clear & consistent engagement strategy with key stakeholders in the North West to maximise strategic relationships and partnerships both with NHS employers and other interested stakeholders. This is whilst also ensuring robust governance and quality management arrangements for the investments provided by NHS England in support of postgraduate pharmacy education.

Critical to the strategic requirements is supporting the Pharmacy Dean within the region to build on the current relationships with Schools of Pharmacy, Integrated Care Boards (ICBs), NHS organisations ( NHS Trusts, Primary Care Networks / general practices, community pharmacies) and other stakeholders to encourage and maximise efforts to increase engagement with post-registration pathways from newly qualified towards advanced consultant level practice.

Main duties of the job

The role involves extensive engagement and liaison with employers or placement providers, Schools of Pharmacy and others on post registration aspects of pharmacist education. This may include changes and developments to tariff policy and implementation, undergraduate student expansion and developing consistent and effective education investment support into local systems. The role will require an understanding and an ability to help influence curriculum development as part of developing the future healthcare workforce. It will also require sound ability in appreciating and utilisation of the best evidence and intelligence to lead the development of a strategy for supporting NHS England in its roles with ICBs, employers and Schools of Pharmacy and post-graduate pharmacist education across the North West. While the focus of the role will initially be primarily on post registration programmes the post-holder will work closely with other colleagues to develop and consider. learning and encourage the spread of best education practice within a multi-professional context.

The post holder will work collaboratively with the Regional teams, local office, NHS England national team, stakeholders, Arm's Length Bodies, Education Providers and other key partners to drive the delivery of the programme across the Region.

The role will be the key point of liaison on related national work streams and will be expected to work with other workforce programme leads and subject matter experts across the region and nationally as required for the delivery of overall priorities and expected outcomes within agreed timescales.

Applicants should be registered pharmacists, will need significant prior experience in developing and delivering training in clinical environments and must be able to demonstrate all essential requirements as listed in the job description.

Applicants will commence at the bottom of Band 8C with a pay step increase after 5 years service. These salaries are offered in accordance with NHS Terms and Conditions and the NHSE Pay Progression Policy and are subject to annual cost of living review.

Masters Level or equivalent level of experience. Evidence of continuing professional development. Extensive knowledge of specialist area acquired through postgraduate education or equivalent experience. Registered Pharmacist with the GPhC.

A developed understanding of current health and care policy and systems and its relationship to medical and healthcare education.
