We have a team of 14 engineers who work within the depot and nationally across the UK servicing, maintaining and undertaking heavy engineering on CL37, CL56, CL43 and CL70 locomotives. The team consists of Electrical and mechanical engineers alongside fabricators and specialist contractors.

As the depot manager at Boden Rail Engineering, you will provide leadership across the depot, with responsibility for the delivery of safe, reliable and presentable locomotives into service. You will lead and direct a team of engineers ensuring that they are supported in their role to work in a safe environment. You will work alongside the production manager to ensure efficient productivity within the depot and in the field.

Experience of leading a team within an engineering environment is essential alongside a working knowledge of health and safety law and the risks involved with heavy engineering and the movement of railway stock.

When required you will be able to communicate effectively with customers providing status reports and be proactive in the escalation of identified issues with their rolling stock.

A minimum of 5 years experience in locomotive engineering is essential for this role

Duties & responsibilities of the Depot Manager

Provide leadership support to the engineering team

Overseeing maintenance, repair and production processes within BREL

Supporting the production manager with production schedules and ensuring resources meet the schedule of works compiled by the production manager

Striving to reduce expenses and increase productivity across all BREL services

Implementing the companys procedures and policies

Communicating any problems or obstacles to the production manager and/or senior management

Monitoring productivity rates, standards and quality control

Training and coaching Junior Engineers

Participation in an on-call Rota

Have a flexible approach to working hours

Implementing health & safety, environmental and quality requirements

Ensuring that equipment in the Depot meets Health and safety requirements, is calibrated and serviced to requirements and is used for intended purposes.

Managing day to day operations within the Depot

Liaising with customers to ensure satisfaction in performance

Supporting the Stores manager with stock management

Holding team meetings when required

Sharing learning from incidents with the depot team via a weekly safety and communication brief

Ensure team adherence to COSHH compliance

Be resourceful in actively finding solutions to problems that occur.

Maintaining high standards of service from Depot the with attention to detail in the quality of the works completed

Completion of depot audits and action plans
