Applications are invited for substantive consultant posts with as main interests in General Subspecialties. This is a full time post at 10 PA with 8.5PAs for direct clinical care and 1.5PAs for SPA in support of personal CPD, preparation for GMC appraisal and revalidation. (Up to two substantive posts are available).

Applicants should have the FRCA or an equivalent qualification and have suitable experience as described in the person specification in the job plan description. They should be on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of their expected CCT date at the time of interview. Experience of NHS working practices and systems, (minimum two years working for the NHS) is essential. For the timetable /DCCplease see detailed info in the main advert. Specialist skills required include advanced training in perioperative medicine, trauma and regional anaesthesia. A proportion of the workload(flexible annualised sessions)has to be delivered at prime-time hours, at weekends and/or in the evenings. The workload during general on-calls does not ordinarily include obstetrics, paeds, ITU, major trauma, neuro, cardiac, which are all covered by separate consultant rotas.However, at times when workload exceeds manpower, you may be asked to help consultant colleagues on different rotas (example major trauma, obstetrics).We will support applicants to pursue their subspecialty interests, as far as practicable. Main duties of the job The post holder will join the General Group of Anaesthetists which consists of approximately 35 Consultants and the Trauma Anaesthetists (approx.14). We are a friendly, approachable, dynamic and diverse group, who are enthusiastic in both teaching colleagues and learning new skills from colleagues. There is emphasis in wellbeing and supporting each other. The case mix at St George's tends to be complex and challenging.Given the huge expertise in the department, it is easy to seek advice and discuss with an expert in a certain field or acquire new skills. Job responsibilities The successful applicant will need commitment, enthusiasm, leadership qualities and the ability to work as part of a large multidisciplinary team. The post holder will be required to participate in clinical governance activities within the service centre. The post holder will be expected the trusts agreed policies and procedures drawn up with the profession on clinical matters, and to follow the standing orders and financial instructions of St Georges Healthcare NHS Trust.
