Are you passionate about improving outcomes for women and girls affected by domestic abuse and joining our Public Health domestic abuse team in Oxfordshire?

We are looking for an exceptional practitioner who has experience of delivering and coordinating training, in addition to working on the VAWG agenda and committed to improving outcomes for victim survivors of domestic abuse and their children.
This role is funded by a grant from the Safer Oxfordshire Partnership and is a 2-year fixed-term role, initially.

About us:

You will be a member of the domestic abuse team which sits within the Live Well, Improve and Enable portfolio in the Public Health and Community Safety Directorate.

The Public Health and Community Safety Directorate is committed to improving health outcomes for the population living in Oxfordshire.

This is an important time as we move into a new phase post pandemic and learn to live with COVID-19.

The Council has strategic priorities including tackling inequalities, prioritising health and well-being, climate change and access to nature and green spaces which all align closely with the public health agenda.

About the role:

Violence against women and girls (VAWG) is a wide-ranging problem incorporating many different crimes.

It includes domestic abuse, sexual violence, stalking and harassment, so-called honour-based abuse, forced marriage and female genital mutilation, as well as other abuses and exploitations.

As part of our Public Health team, you will act as a champion for Domestic Abuse and VAWG; provide expert consultancy and specialist advice to partners across the Oxfordshire System and Thames Valley.

This includes engagement and support for VAWG related interventions and strategies, led by agencies within the Safer Oxfordshire Partnership, including City and District councils, police, the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner and the Voluntary Care sector.

You will also lead the design and implementation of Oxfordshire's Domestic Abuse / VAWG training offer, linking to the Oxfordshire County Council Domestic Abuse Strategies, safeguarding activities across the County, and other relevant partnership strategies, delivery and governance.

Some of this will be achieved through commissioning and coordination of training, and quality assurance through training evaluation.

Domestic Abuse:

The Domestic Abuse agenda has developed at pace, following the introduction of the Domestic Abuse Act 2021, and additional funding from the Department for Levelling Up Housing and Communities to support the delivery of the statutory duties defined in the Act.

Oxfordshire has recently published the Overarching Domestic Abuse Strategy and Safe Accommodation Strategy which can be found on our website Our partnership approach | Oxfordshire County Council.

We will require systemwide partnership working to ensure agendas are aligned and deliver the requirements of the Domestic Abuse Act 2021.

Rewards and benefits:

It really is true that every single job role here contributes to bettering the lives of the people in our county - we want to do this for our employees too.

We are proud of our strong flexible working culture, including the opportunity for flexibility on working hours and the use of technology to support agile working.

We offer some of the best learning and development opportunities to support your ongoing development.

We have a generous holiday allowance which rises as you remain in employment with us up to 32 days, as well as giving you the option to buy additional holiday.

You will also have access to a Local Government Pension Scheme with employer contributions of up to 19.9% of your salary; a range of local and national retail discounts; and a host of enhanced family friendly policies including carers leave and paid time off for volunteering.
