Job summary

In BSMHFT we are expanding our psychological provision to people with a diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder. Would you like to join a small, enthusiastic, innovative and friendly team?

We specialise in providing high quality psychological care to people with mood disorders with a key focus on a package of group cognitive behavioural psychoeducation and individual staying well work. We provide some CBT and family work alongside the well established and respected 'Mood on Track programme'. This is an exciting opportunity to join a specialist Bipolar Service working within Community Mental Health Services. We are looking for an assistant psychologist to work with us on a 12 month fixed term contract. The Service operates Monday-Friday; with some flexibility to accommodate service-user need. This post is full time, working hours per week based in Kings Heath with hybrid working. We are currently providing therapeutic interventions online and face-to face.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a highly motivated Assistant Psychologist with a genuine interest in severe and enduring mental health conditions such as Bipolar Disorder and Psychosis . The Assistant Psychologist role is integral to the smooth running of the Mood on Track Programme. The role includes providing support in both clinical interventions and data collection and analysis for service evaluation. Previous experience of psychological group / individual interventions would be helpful for this role. Applicants will need to have experience of a working in a mental health setting in a voluntary or paid capacity. Good communication skills and an ability to understand and analyse data will be essential to the role . We will accept applications for those who have not yet got their final degree result if predicted grade is 2:1 or above. Recruitment to the post will be conditional on obtaining / or having already achieved 2:1 or above at degree level.

Person Specification

Training and Qualifications

Essential

An upper second class honours degree or higher in psychology. Will accept predicted grade but any offer will be conditional on acheivining degree level 2:1 or above. Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society

Desirable

Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice, service evaluation and/or research design and analysis. Masters level qualification

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

Relevant clinical experience in a mental health setting assistant psychology post/internship/graduate health care worker/care work NHS experience Experience of data collection and analysis in healthcare settings experience of psychological interventions

Desirable

Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Experience of paid work in direct care provision. Research experience in clinical setting/NHS Work with people with Bipolar Disorder Experience of administering psychological tests/measure

Skills

Essential

High level communication skills (written and verbal) including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive.

Desirable

Ability to use databases and carry out data-analysis, especially SPSS for Windows.
