What's the job?:

We are going through an exciting period of change across our ecommerce platform and are seeking highly motivated and experienced Technical Leads to join our engineering function.

As a Technical Lead, you will work closely with your cross functional team to design and implement new features and products and act as the driving force within the Engineering team to ensure these are delivered successfully.


Our aspiration is to grow an engineering function that is world class, pioneering in the retail technology space, making high quality software within a growth culture that is always looking for the next thing to improve or adapt to meet our customer needs.

We are seeking to use technology to give the customers the best digital and in person shopping experiences out there.


To do this we are changing, moving away from monoliths, and moving towards MACH architectures (Micro Services, API, Cloud, Headless) to give us the ability to make change fast, using automation, DevOps, and CI/CD.

We are utilising a range of exciting technologies across our stack, including, Java, Kotlin, React, JavaScript, React Native, to name just a few.

What we need:

  • Lead engineering team(s) to understand and develop technical products and solutions that create robust customer experiences.
  • Provide technical leadership to team members through coaching and mentoring.
  • Establish and maintain a bestinclass culture among the team through partnership, open dialogue, and transparent feedback.
  • Participate in development activities to support the progress of the team, including handson coding, peerreviews, and technical decisions.
  • Work closely with Principal Engineering and Solution Architecture to create lowlevel designs that support both product and technology roadmaps.
  • Ensure product backlog items are appropriately refined, estimated, and prioritised, including technical enhancements and technical debt.
  • Work alongside other domain leaders to identify and bridge the gaps to enable predictable and sustainable delivery.
  • Lead engineering team(s) to adopt and adhere to bestinclass engineering practices.

  • Strong experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and technical solutions.
  • A pragmatic, product focused attitude to ensure what we build consistently delivers value to our customers in a sustainable way.
  • Extensive experience working with multiple programming languages and frameworks.
  • Experience with microservices and event driven architectures.
  • Exceptional problemsolving skills with the ability to steer development of solutions to complex technical issues.
  • Strong relationship and stakeholder skills.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communications skills with the ability to convey technical concepts and influence at all levels.
  • Experience in agile/lean software engineering practices.
  • Experience continually improving and evolving engineering and technology practices.
