Clinical Team Interpreter

A unique opportunity has arisen for a Team (BSL) Interpreter to work with the Deaf CAMHS (Child Adolescent Mental Health Service) Manchester team; working 7.5 hours per week to include a full day on a Monday.


As a clinical team interpreter, you will be working within an established team of mental health practitioners working with deaf children and their families.

You will be involved in clinical work such as initial appointments, assessments and therapy sessions.

Team interpreters are valued members of the multi-disciplinary team and are involved in discussions about the service and its work, therefore a team interpreters scope of practice is widened to include working with technologies, translation and service developments such audits and guidance for example 'working together'.


As an employee of LYPFT there is opportunity to access training (mandatory and other), conferences and other CPD activities e.g.

national service events, away days and special interest groups for National Deaf CAMHS interpreters.

There are also potential opportunities to develop your skills and experience in a specific area of interest e.g. full team assessments or specific therapies. You will regularly have access to both managerial and clinical (professional) supervision.

The Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LYPFT) is the main provider of Mental Health and Learning Disability services in Leeds.

  • To undertake a range of sign language interpreting tasks for deaf and hearing people in a variety of settings as required
  • To facilitate communication between users of English and BSL within a mental health setting.
  • To provide a high level of interpreting skills
  • Be willing to travel to other sites if needed
  • Contribute to guidance and procedure in relation to working with interpreters in the NDCAMHS service
  • Sight translation and interpretation of letters and information into BSL
  • To work with other communication professionals such as; deaf intralinguals and advocates where necessary to ensure, as far as possible, that the client is able to access and understand communication and to make themselves fullyunderstood
  • To observe all aspects of the NRCDP Code of Conduct (or equivalent) with particular regard to the maintenance of confidentiality (within the boundaries of reasonable organisational responsibility)
  • To engage in supervision effectively and continue developing their professional role.
