Working alongside the Volunteering & Community Manager, you'll help make the Peak District a great place to volunteer and be involved with.


Your contractual location will be Longshaw Estate office near Sheffield, but occasional travel to Ilam and Dovedale in the White Peak will also be required.

Your hours can be worked flexibly across the week and this can be discussed further at interview stage. Some weekend and bank holiday working will also be required.

As part of the Peak District Volunteering & Community team, you'll be working alongside a passionate and knowledgeable team of 70+ staff and 350+ volunteers, across the portfolio.

No two days will be the same, and you'll get to work in some of the most stunning locations in the Peak District.

There are opportunities to learn and develop, including online and face to face training, and you'll be well supported at every step of the way by the V&C Manager, the portfolio team and the wider V&C network in the region.


The National Trust's Peak District portfolio welcomes over 13 million visitors a year and includes some of the most popular and iconic places in the National Park.

Covering a huge geographical area, the portfolio is made up of the High Peak Estate, Ilam & Dovedale in the White Peak, and the Longshaw Estate near Sheffield.


What you'll be doing:

As volunteering and community run across all that we do in the Peak District, you'll work alongside every team to make sure Longshaw and the High Peak are great places to volunteerandr be involved with.

With the Volunteering & Community Manager, you'll help shape and deliver the portfolio ambitions in these areas, growing support for our work and ensuring everyone feels welcome.


You'll support the daily organisation of volunteering, making sure staff and volunteers feel confident and capable to use our self-service processes, becoming an expert user of our systems.

You'll be involved in every stage of the volunteer journey, from recruitment and induction through to reward and recognition, and will help ensure the volunteer team is kept engaged and informed through regular communication.

You'll identify ways that we can attract and encourage more people to volunteer with us, building relationships with volunteer centres, community groups, colleges and universities, and user groups.

You'll work 18.75 hour per week, with some flexibility around how these hours are worked across 7 days.

  • Can demonstrate an understanding of volunteering and be enthusiastic about promoting the benefits of volunteering and community engagement
  • Have excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Have good communication and teamworking skills
  • Are confident to build effective and collaborative working relationships with a wide range of people including staff, volunteers and partners
  • Are well organised with the ability to prioritise effectively, and show attention to detail
  • Are confident to support those managing, supervising and working alongside volunteers and community partners
  • Have practical experience of IT systems e.g. Microsoft Office.
