Single Baggage Operator (SBO)


Are you our next Single Baggage Operator? We are looking for someone who can help us redefine what's possible for are Engineering team.


As part of our 'Grow with Gatwick' initiative you'll be provided with plenty of training and support to ensure you're developing and growing your career.

The Engineering team deliver what matters. They protect, maintain, and repair our infrastructure. From the electricity that powers this place. Giant plant rooms that heat and cool the airport. To the specialist equipment on the airfield too

What is the role?


The core purpose of the role is to monitor the operation of Gatwick baggage systems from a multi-functional control room.

Thus, enabling smooth and safe baggage flow through multiple system assets.

What will you do?

  • To monitor the baggage operation using Scada, CCTV and other systems.
  • To communicate faults to the Engineering team in clear concise manner, following radio protocol on radio systems provided.
  • To input and check chute allocation plan into Sort allocation computer (SAC) for GAL baggage and make any changes requested.
  • To implement required contingencies when instructed by MBO to safeguard smooth operation.
  • To complete all documentation, records and reports required.
  • To provide information to technicians and MBO while they are in the field.
  • To ensure that all health & safety rules are followed in line with GAL policies and procedure
  • To capture information accurately on event logs during any disruption or system outages.
  • Capture performance of key assets daily to share with Baggage team
