An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Communication's Officer to join the Bright Northumbria Charity Team on a 12 month fixed term contract.


The post will provide dedicated communications support to the Bright Northumbria Charity with the aim of creating and implementing a modern, innovative and engaging communications strategy for both internal and external audiences in order to improve the visibility of the charity and increase donations.


  • Promotes the services, work and reputation of the Bright Charity using a wide range of communication techniques and in accordance with an existing communications strategy.
  • To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the trust. This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which (a) engages, enables and empowers others (b) uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement and (c) facilitates team working and collaboration within teams / departments and across organisational boundaries.
  • Promotes the work of the Bright Charity through the development and delivery of internal and external communications through press releases, social media content, website content, stakeholder communications, charity literature development, fundraising campaigns and internal promotional materials
  • Implements and evaluates communications projects.
  • Commissions, writes, edits, proof reads and coordinates complex publications, leaflets and advice documents; articles, briefings and online content, organises print and distribution, ensuring everything is of the highest standard.
  • Organises and manages events. Develops, implements and evaluates communications and engagement strategy.
The role is part of Northumbria healthcare's Bright Northumbria Charity.

The charity manages a wide range of activities and projects that make a positive difference to the experience of our patients and staff.

This includes the Northumbria Voluntary Service (NVS), D/deaf Awareness programme, hospital environment projects, the healing arts programme and international projects.


Bright Northumbria charity brand was launched in 2012 and over the years has established itself within our communities, gaining traction across the region.

  • Lead communication specialist for the Bright Charity. Handles all aspects of internal and external communications for the charity ensuring the delivery of and, where necessary, evolution of the charity's communications strategy.
  • Highly specialised knowledge underpinned by theory or indepth experience of a broad range of communications, public relations and marketing techniques, approaches and procedures gained through significant practical experience working in the public relations / marketing / communication field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for writing internal and external briefings, marketing / communication material, newsletters and magazines often to communicate complex, sensitive or contentious information that requires analysis or interpretation to internal stakeholders.
  • Take an overall production lead role in producing the Bright publications,, generating creative ideas for content, drafting copy, briefing design agencies and printers.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines that may be conflicting or unexpected, prioritising workload to meet deadlines.
  • Awareness of the current political climate, NHS national and local strategies and policies. Able to investigate and interpret highly complex facts or situations. Regularly required when handling complex media enquiries, determining and implementing the most effective communications approach, and securing the cooperation and agreement of colleagues.
  • Influential within the organisation in matters relating to all communication issues and able to provide detailed advice to others both within the charity team and outwith the Bright Charity that will affect the charity.
