The role

We have an exciting opportunity for an individual with administrative experience to join our team as our Charity Administrator.


This role sits within the Children's Cancer North charity team, raising funds to make life better for children with cancer.

If you have administration experience, specifically working in a small team where you are comfortable working both alone and supporting other team members and you're looking for a job with real purpose, we want to hear from you Charity sector experience is not essential.


This role supports the Children's Cancer North charity team, who raise funds to make life better for children with cancer.

The role is designed to provide administrative support to the Children's Cancer North team, enabling the charity to continue to thrive and grow.

This is an exciting opportunity to gain experience working within a successful and growing regional charity as part of a wider fundraising team supporting children and young people based across the North East and Cumbria receiving treatment for cancer at the Great North Children's Hospital.

The charity also funds research into childhood cancers based at Newcastle University's Wolfson Childhood Cancer Research Centre and raises awareness of childhood cancer in the region

You'll be joining a small team which will consist of 10 employees by the end of 2024.

Currently there are 7 members employed in the team, with varying experience levels, who have worked for the charity between 1 month and 8 years.

You'll report to Janette Enright, Finance & Administration Coordinator, who has been with the charity for nearly 8 years.


In this role, you'll be based at our Newcastle Upon Tyne campus that has fantastic transport links and state of the art facilities.

This is an office based role but we offer a flexible working model.

  • Excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to triage queries and issues efficiently
  • Able to work independently wherever possible and using own initiative to organise own workload in response to changing demands and priorities
  • Experience of managing confidential and/or sensitive information with tact and discretion, and a working knowledge of data protection GDPR requirements
  • Is able to be flexible to a range of changing tasks
  • Has high attention to detail with a commitment to data accuracy and integrity
  • Is people orientated, is approachable and has a positive 'cando' attitude

About the Charity:


Children's Cancer North is a charity launched in May 2021, born from the merger of two well established regional charities: North of England Children's Cancer Research and the Children's Cancer Fund.

Children's Cancer North aims to make life better for children with cancer through providing direct support to children in treatment and their families and investing in revolutionary research.

It is a registered charity working in partnership with Newcastle University, funding research carried out within the Centre for Cancer, a Newcastle University centre of research excellence.

This post is full time, initially a two-year Fixed Term Contract.

Key Accountabilities
Events Organisation and Administration
Assist with the organisation and delivery of designated charity events, to include, but not limited to, preparation and circulation of documents, communication with event stakeholders to obtain, coordinate and record specific details and legal documentation, preparation of presentations and event materials for various audiences to a clear brief, processing event catering orders with various suppliers
Regularly monitoring charity merchandise stock levels and maintaining a systematic stock ordering process to ensure charity merchandise and branded materials are readily available to the staff team and charity supporters
Preparation of event equipment lists based on kit storage levels and determining in a timely manner where stock levels of specific items require replenishing
Understand the processes of online registration platforms for event participants and use these to assist in the online entries for the Children's Cancer Run projects and administration of Children's Cancer North team Great North Run places
Support the Events Manager in elements of the planning and delivery of fundraising events including the Children's Cancer Run
Support the preparation of event documents
Provide on the day support at Children's Cancer North events as required
Data Management
Supporting the Administration Coordinator in preparing data reports to communicate to the full staff team for analysis.
