This Senior Clinical Fellowship will run from the beginning August 2023 to the end of January 2024 for a 6 month period


This Senior Clinical Fellowship is aimed at post-CCT trainees who wish to advance their knowledge and understanding of Limb Reconstruction Surgery in a high-volume tertiary referral centre that treats a broad variety of complex acquired and congenital pathologies with a wide variety of surgical and non-surgical treatments.


The Senior Clinical Fellow post will be based in the elective centre at Broadgreen Hospital and the major trauma centre at Aintree Hospital.

Daily work will be varied and include responsibility for coordinating the junior doctor team, providing care for both inpatients and outpatients within these hospitals, preparation for MDT meetings, active participation in outpatient clinics, elective and trauma theatre sessions and research responsibilities.

We will encourage the fellow to develop their clinical and operative skills under consultant supervision across a wide variety of cases.

The role will also involve specific responsibilities regarding the coordination and production of research activity.


Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was created on 1 October 2019 following the merger of two adult acute Trusts, Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust.

The Fellow will benefit from working within an established multi-disciplinary team that has provided fellowship training in complex elective and trauma Limb Reconstruction Surgery for decades and has an excellent national and international reputation.

The Fellow will gain clinical experience in all aspects of Limb Reconstruction Surgery, including combined orthoplastic clinics and operating.

The role will include coordinating weekly clinical responsibilities for the team of junior doctors and managing the weekly MDT meetings.

Additionally, it is expected that the Fellow will work collaboratively to advance and develop research projects within the department, in order to produce a minimum of one peer reviewed publication during the period of the Fellowship.


This Fellowship will be under the supervision of Mr Nick Peterson, however during the appointment the Fellow will work flexibly with all consultants in the Liverpool Limb Reconstruction Unit (Mr Badri Narayan, Mr Nikos Giotakis, Mr Ben Fischer, Professor Simon Graham and Mr Will Harrison).


The Fellow should have a certificate of completion of specialist training (CCST) in trauma and orthopaedic surgery and must be eligible for registration with the General Medical Council.


The Fellow will be expected to contribute to Quality Improvement Projects and Clinical Audit, as well as taking part in regular Governance meetings, demonstrating their understanding and ability to manage these essential aspects of clinical practice.


Opportunities to develop and contribute to research projects will be provided within this role, with direct supervision from Professor Simon M Graham.


Teaching will be provided in all clinical settings, with informal and formal teaching sessions on a variety of topics relevant to limb reconstruction surgery.


The Fellow will also be encouraged and facilitated to undertake external training courses and conferences, appropriate to their specific needs.
