Job Introduction
Communications supports the BBC's strategic agenda by defending and enhancing the Corporation's reputation. Through press, publicity and corporate affairs, the team helps win internal and external support for the BBC's strategic choices.

Main Responsibilities

The post-holder will support the BBC Radio 1 & 1Xtra, Asian Network Communications team in providing 360 degree communications support for BBC content, planning and executing proactive publicity campaigns across traditional and digital media, identifying and managing reputational issues and crises, managing on-air talent, production executives and independent publicists, and working within a priority-based publicity team, and will also lead publicity on agreed projects.


  • Experience in publicity or public relations in a high profile organization, ideally across radio, TV and social media
  • An interest in and passion for BBC Radio 1 & 1Xtra, Asian Network content, particularly new music, youth issues, pop culture and media targeted at young people plus any specialist understanding or experience
  • A good knowledge of print, broadcast and online media and how they work, including the BBC's structure and relevant guidelines
  • A good news sense with ability to write crisp, clear and lively press releases and copy
  • Proven creativity when planning and executing publicity campaigns, including the use of social media, content assets and embargoes
  • Experience in dealing with reputational issues under pressure and on tight deadlines, including the ability to confidently liaise with senior stakeholders and talent to achieve desirable outcomes
  • Experience in working with a constantly changing workload, prioritising effectively and seeking guidance when needed
  • Excellent IT skills, with the ability to adapt to new IT systems
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including flexibly working in a team and establishing and maintaining credibility and effective working relationships with a wide range of contacts journalists, artists, senior managers, broadcasters and editorial staff
