As a UK Tax Advisor in the Corporate Tax Department, you'll report to the UK Tax Manager, overseeing UK tax functions. Responsibilities include timely completion of UK corporation tax returns, managing compliance, and assisting with overseas tax filings. Strong communication skills are essential due to frequent interactions with colleagues globally. You'll need excellent project management skills and flexibility to meet deadlines while accommodating non-tax colleagues' schedules. Strong self-motivation and independence are also key, along with staff management responsibilities for the Corporate Tax Assistant.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- UK corporate tax compliance (tax return and statutory reporting) and advisory activities:
- Preparation of the corporation tax and deferred tax figures and disclosures for incorporation in the UK statutory accounts for the UK group;
- Preparation of the UK corporation tax returns and computations for group, to include double tax relief claims, rollover/holdover claims, group relief claims, patent box and research and development claims, corporate interest restriction calculations etc.;
- Preparation of the Overseas UK branch corporation tax returns and computations for the group/liaison with advisors assisting in the process;
- Working with the wider NOV Tax, Finance and Commercial teams, advising on the structuring and implications of commercial transactions to include crossborder transactions;
- Advise on UK tax implications of potential M&A activity and restructuring;
- Assist with HMRC enquiries/audits as required;
- Working with external providers (as required) on the UK tax compliance and advisory matters.
- VAT
- Assist with the UK VAT group maintenance, monthly VAT return process and act as a point of contact for VAT queries.
- Assist in managing all aspects of UK corporate tax administration, to include:
- Preparation of estimates to support QIPs, calculating and arranging for re-allocation/repayment of QIP overpayments etc.
- Managing the UK group's GPA.
- Work with the UK Tax Manager to ensure appropriate internal controls are in place and proactively seek out and develop solutions to mitigate risks and identify opportunities.
- US GAAP reporting:
- Prepare and assist the wider Finance team with quarterly and annual US GAAP tax reporting requirements.
- Prepare adhoc correspondence with HMRC.
- Supervise and develop more junior members of staff.
- Assist the UK Tax Manager in any other activities relevant to this role as they arise.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Qualified CA/CTA (essential)
EXPERIENCE
- Excellent technical knowledge within UK corporate tax (essential)
- Previous experience in working in a company with multijurisdictional concerns, or within an accountancy firm dealing with cross border issues (essential)
- UK VAT knowledge (desirable)
